Prohor is a 2002 Bengali feature film directed by Subhadro Chowdhury. [1] The film is based on Dulendra Bhowmick's short story Dash Number Bed. The cinematographer of the film was Amlan Dutta. It revolves around a nurse who, in one night, discovers that there is a patient in her hospital, who once raped her brutally. It stars Debashree Roy in the central character. The film was edited by Saurav Sharangi and the background score was composed by Chiradeep Dasgupta. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]

The film was critically appreciated and has often been considered as the best of Debashree Roy. [8] [9] Indian film historian S. Theodore Bhaskaran listed this film into his choice of ten best Indian films. [10] Several film critics have considered this film stodgy and unwieldy. [11] It bagged Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut Film of a Director in 2002. [12] It was released in some limited halls in 2002. [13] [14] [15]

Synopsis

Nandita who is a nurse by her profession encounters an emergent case of a bomb blast. The patient is a bomb blast victim and a criminal under police protection.

Debashree Roy, also known as Debasree Roy, is an Indian actress, dancer, choreographer, politician and animal rights activist. As an actress, she is known for her work in Hindi and Bengali cinema. She has been cited as the reigning queen of Bengali commercial cinema. She acted in more than a hundred films and won over forty awards, including a National Award, three BFJA Awards, five Kalakar Awards and an Anandalok Award. As a dancer, she is known for her stage adaptations of the various forms of Indian folk dances as well as her innovative dance forms imbued with elements from Indian classical, tribal and folk dance. She runs Natraj dance troupe. She is the founder of Debasree Roy Foundation, a non-profit organisation that works for the cause of stray animals. Roy was a Member of the Legislative Assembly from Raidighi constituency since 2011 till 2021.

Jisshu Ujjwal Sengupta is an Indian actor, producer, television presenter. who predominantly works in Bengali, Hindi and Telugu films. Sengupta made his debut through a Bengali TV series, Mahaprabhu where he portrayed the role of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu; the role gained him much recognition. Subsequently, he made his film debut with Priyojon (1997), which became a debacle at the box office. In 2002, he played Tagore in Sukanta Roy's ambitious venture Chelebela alongside Debashree Roy playing Kadambari Devi. following which he appeared in a spate of critically and commercially unsuccessful projects. He made his Bollywood debut with Shyam Benegal's National Award winning film Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero (2004). A turning point came in his career when he collaborated with Rituparno Ghosh for the latter's Abohomaan, which earned him critical acclaim. Sengupta's collaborations with other directors for films such as Jaatishwar enabled him to become one of the most sought out actors in Bengali cinema.

<i>Yuddho</i> 2005 Indian film

Yuddho is a 2005 Indian action thriller film written and directed by Rabi Kinagi and produced by Shree Venkatesh Films. The screenplay of the film was written by N.K. Salil. The story revolves around a police officer who is charged with false accusation of murdering his wife and imprisoned as he has been investigating a rape case that involves the younger brother of a powerful MLA. The officer then manages to evade the prison and have his revenge. It stars Mithun Chakraborty and Jeet for the first time together, along with Debashree Roy, Koel Mallick, Kaushik Banerjee, Bharat Kaul and Rajatava Dutta.

Janani is a 1993 Bengali film directed and produced by Sanat Dasgupta with a financial assistance from National Film Development Corporation of India. The film narrates the life of a little boy and his ostracized mother who is isolated from him as she is believed to be a witch in the village she lives in. It is based on a Bengali short story named Baen written by the renowned Bengali author Mahasweta Devi. It was scripted by Partha Banerjee, Ashutosh Sarkar and Sanat Dasgupta himself. The music of the film was scored by Partha Sengupta. It stars Roopa Ganguly in the central role.

<i>Boxer</i> (2018 film) Indian Bengali sports drama romantic film

Boxer is an Indian Bengali sports drama romantic film directed by Sanjoy Bardhan. Boxer is about a young boxer based in Kolkata. The film stars debutant Shikhar Srivastava and Ena Saha in the lead roles and was produced by Koushik K Roy, also known as Roy Koushik. The music was released through SVF Music. It was heavily inspired by the 2016 Bollywood Film Do Lafzon Ki Kahani, which was itself based on the 2011 South Korean Film Always.

The 34th International Film Festival of India was held from 9–19 October 2003 in New Delhi. The competitive edition was restricted to "Asian Directors and Neelam Kapur was the festival director. Veteran actor Kamal Haasan was the chief guest.

<i>Sarbojaya</i> Indian Bengali television series

Sarbojaya is an 2021 Indian Bengali Language Drama television series which is premiered on 9 August 2021 on Bengali general entertainment channel Zee Bangla and it's also available on ZEE5 before it's telecast. The show is produced by Snehasish Chakraborty of Blues Productions and stars Debasree Roy, Kushal Chakraborty and Sanghamitra Talukdar. This show marked the comeback of Debashree Roy in the television industry after 25 years. The show went off air on 14 May 2022 due to low viewership and was replaced by Khelna Bari.

The IFFI Special Jury Award and Special Mention are the two honors presented annually at the International Film Festival of India for excellency in Film Art in World cinema. It was first presented during the 4th IFFI 1969. The award was later re-instated since 29th IFFI 1998. On the occasion of 100 years of Indian cinema, Centenary Awards were conferred during 2012, 2013, and 2014. The Special Mention being awarded since the 46th IFFI 2015.
