Ralph Leek was an American football player for the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights. In 1980, he was a back-up to starting quarterback Ed McMichael. [1] [2] In 1981, as a junior, Leek was a starter. [3] He ran for a one-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter of the first game of the season, as Rutgers defeated Syracuse 29-27. [4] The following week, he threw one touchdown pass in a 13-5 victory over Colgate. [5] Leek completed 72% of his pass attempts in those two games. [6] In the third game, against Virginia, he was intercepted three times in the first half, but Rutgers won, 3-0. [7] The Scarlet Knights started the season 5-1 but lost their last five games to finish at 5-6. Overall, Leek completed 80 of 167 passes for 926 yards in 1981; he also had five touchdown passes and 16 interceptions. [2] [8] Leek led Rutgers in passing yards and total offense yards (971), but his 16 interceptions set a single-season team record which was broken by Jacque LaPrarie in 1982. [8] [9]

Mike Teel is a former American football quarterback. He played college football for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, and was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the sixth round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Teel spent time with the Seahawks, New England Patriots, and Chicago Bears in the span of three years. After serving as the quarterbacks coach for the Kean Cougars of Kean University in 2011, he was the quarterbacks coach for Wagner College in 2012 and departed after one year. In 2014 Teel resumed coaching as a graduate assistant at Rutgers.Teel is formerly the head coach for the Don Bosco Prep Ironmen football team.

The 1978 Garden State Bowl, part of the 1978 bowl game season, took place on December 16, 1978, at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The competing teams were the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, which competed as a football independent, and the Arizona State Sun Devils, representing the Pacific-10 Conference (Pac-10). In the inaugural edition of the Garden State Bowl, Arizona State came-from-behind to defeat Rutgers 34–18.

Jacory Sherrod Harris is a former Canadian football quarterback for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League (CFL), and a current firefighter in Miami, FL for the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department. Harris started for Miami Northwestern High School during his last two years; he was unbeaten (30-0) and led the team to two state championships. In his senior year, Harris broke the state record for passing touchdowns and won the 2007 High School Football National Championship. He was named Florida's Mr. Football. During his freshman year of college in 2008 with the Miami Hurricanes, he split time with Robert Marve in a two-quarterback system. After the Emerald Bowl in late December, Marve transferred to Purdue, effectively making Harris the undisputed starter for the rest of his career as a Hurricane. He signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent in May 2012.

James Guarantano is a former American football wide receiver for the NFL's San Diego Chargers and the CFL's Baltimore Stallions. He was also a former standout wide receiver while playing college football at Rutgers University.

The 2012 Russell Athletic Bowl was a postseason American college football bowl game held on December 28, 2012, at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida in the United States. This was the first under the Russell Athletic moniker after eight game under Champs Sports. The 23rd edition of the Russell Athletic Bowl began at 5:30 p.m. EST and aired on ESPN. It featured the Big East Conference co-champion Rutgers Scarlet Knights against the Virginia Tech Hokies from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), and was the final game of the 2012 NCAA Division I FBS football season for both teams. John McNulty, is an American football coach who currently serves as an analyst for Alabama. He is a former player and graduate of the Penn State University. McNulty returned to Rutgers, where he spent five seasons as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator from 2004 to 2008. The veteran coach also spent 15 seasons in the National Football League (NFL), coaching for six different teams.
