Rasika Productions is an Indian Marathi play production and distribution company based in Mumbai as part of the Marathi theatre industry. The company was founded by Mukta Barve in 2013.

A production company, production house, production studio, or a production team provides the physical basis for works in the realms of the performing arts, new media art, film, television, radio, comics, interactive arts, video games, websites, and video. Production teams are a group of technical staff who produce the media. Generally the term refers to all individuals responsible for the technical aspects of creating of a particular product, regardless of where in the process their expertise is required, or how long they are involved in the project. For example, in a theatrical performance, the production team includes not only the running crew, but also the theatrical producer, designers and theatre direction.

Marathi theatre

Marathi theatre is theatre in the Marathi language, mostly originating or based in the state Maharashtra in India, and elsewhere with Marathi diaspora. Starting in the middle of the 19th century, it flourished in the 1950s and 1960s, and includes forms like Sangeet Natak and Tamasha. Today, it continues to have a marked presence in the State of Maharashtra with a loyal audience base, when most theatre in other parts of India have had tough time facing the onslaught of cinema and television. Its repertoire ranges from humorous social plays, farces, historical plays, musical, to experimental plays and serious drama of the 1970s onwards, by Vijay Tendulkar, P. L. Deshpande, Mahesh Elkunchwar and Satish Alekar, which have influenced theatre throughout India. In fact in the post-independence era, besides Bengali theatre, Marathi theatre has been a singular driving force behind innovations and significant dramaturgy in Indian theatre.

History

Mukta Barve who impressed her fans through her performances in plays, television and films, debuted as a producer in Marathi theatre with her production house named after late actress Rasika Joshi. [1] Barve's first production as a producer was the play titled Chhapa Kata, which saw her play the lead role along with veteran actress Reema Lagoo. [1] According to Barve, this production house is her tribute to her friendship with Rasika. [1] Later she produced two plays Lovebirds (2015), [2] Indira (2015) [3] and Rang Nava (2014), [4] a poetry based theatre program.

Mukta Barve Indian actress

Mukta Barve is an Indian television, film and theatre actress and a producer. One of the most popular Marathi celebrities, she has established a career in Marathi films. She is a recipient of six Maharashtra State Film Awards one for Best Debut and other five for Best Actress in different plays and films.

Rasika Joshi was a noted Marathi and Hindi film actress. A celebrated Marathi theatre and Indian television actress, she was known for Maharashtrian roleplays in Bollywood movies.

Reema Lagoo Indian actress

Reema Lagoo was an Indian theatre and screen actress known for her work in Hindi and Marathi cinema. She began her acting career in the Marathi theatre., after which she became a household name for playing motherly roles in the 1990s and early 2000s. She worked in various hits of Indian cinema like "Hum Aapke Hain Kaun". She gained mainstream success after doing a supporting role in Hum Aapke Hain Kaun.

Directed and co written by Satish Rajwade with a screenplay by Rajwade and Parag Kulkarni. It had only 2 characters unnamed in the movie played by Mukta Barve and Swwapnil Joshi. The movie is based on a love story between a boy and girl from different cities of Pune and Mumbai respectively Swwapnil Joshi and Mukta Barve and how their competitive spirits get them together. The film was critically and commercially successful and a superhit at the box office. A Sequel, Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai 2 was released on 12 November 2015. It was remade in Hindi in 2014 as Mumbai Delhi Mumbai, in Kannada as Pyarge Aagbittaite, in Telugu as Made in Vizag and in Punjabi as Chandigarh-Amritsar-Chandigarh.
