History

The Record Delta is the merger of the Buckhannon Record and the Republican Delta. The Buckhannon Record was founded in 1876. [4] In the 1910s it had the distinction of being an early West Virginia newspaper to be helmed by a female editor, Minnie Kendall Lowther. [5] Commenting on the paper's leadership in 1918. the Exponent Telegram stated: "The Buckhannon Record, edited by a woman, is.one of the best of northern West Virginia weeklies and it is high time that women were taking more active part in newspaperdom generally throughout West Virginia." [6]

In March 1977, the Buckhannon Record combined with the Republican Delta to form the Record Delta. [7]

In both 2016 and 2017, the paper won the West Virginia Press Association's General Excellence Award in Division IV (under 4,000 circulation). [8] [9]

It has been sourced for reporting by the Charleston Gazette-Mail as recently as April 2018, [10] and is considered a paper of public record by the State of West Virginia. [11]

On August 14, 2018, News Media Corporation announced that James Austin would take over as the publisher of The Record Delta, Mountain Statesman, The  Weston Democrat. [12]

The Dominion Post is the only commercial daily newspaper in Morgantown, West Virginia. It formed from the merger of the Morgantown New Dominion and the Morgantown News into the Morgantown Dominion-News which, in turn, merged with the Morgantown Post. The term New Dominion was a reference to Virginia's state nickname of "Old Dominion", referencing the separation of West Virginia from Virginia in 1863.

The Times West Virginian is a four-day morning daily newspaper based in Fairmont, West Virginia, which also covers the city of Bridgeport, West Virginia, and surrounding communities in Marion, Monongalia, Taylor and Harrison counties, West Virginia. The paper was founded as the Fairmont Times and West Virginian through the merging of the long-running Fairmont Times and Fairmont West Virginian in 1975. It adopted its current name in 1976.

The Register-Herald is a six-day morning daily newspaper, Monday thru Friday with a Weekend Edition delivered on Saturday mornings, and is based in Beckley, West Virginia, and also covering surrounding communities in Fayette, Greenbrier, Raleigh, Summers and Wyoming counties, West Virginia. Edward Gay Rohrbough was a Republican United States Representative from West Virginia. He was born in 1874, near Buckhannon, West Virginia, in Upshur County, West Virginia. He served in the Seventy-eighth and Eightieth Congress. He died December 12, 1956.

Eldora Marie Bolyard Nuzum (1926–2004) was an American newspaper editor and journalist who interviewed several United States presidents. She was born in Grafton, West Virginia to Roy Everett Bolyard (1901–1983) and Georgia Ellen Deavers Bolyard (1909–1994). Nuzum started her newspaper career in the 1940s at the daily newspaper, The Grafton Sentinel. In 1946 she became editor at a young age of 20 years and served in that capacity for six years.

William David Hamilton is an American politician. He is a member of the West Virginia Senate from the 11th district. He was a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates representing District 45 from January 12, 2013 to December 1, 2018. Hamilton served consecutively from January 2003 until January 2013 in the District 39 seat.
