Reece Waldock is a retired senior Australian public servant. Most recently he served concurrently as Director-General of the WA Department of Transport, Commissioner of Main Roads Western Australia and CEO of the WA Public Transport Authority, between May 2010 and July 2016.

Life and career

In the early years of his career, Waldock worked for BHP. He studied metallurgy at Curtin University on a BHP scholarship, before moving to Australia's east for work. He returned to Western Australia in the mid-1980s. [1]

Waldock was appointed to a senior executive position in the WA public service in the early 1990s, [2] including in the Department of Commerce and Trade and the Department of Transport. In December 2000, he acted as Commissioner of Western Australian Government Railways Commission, following the sale of the rail freight business component of Westrail. [3]

From July 2003 to July 2016, Waldock was Chief Executive Officer of the Public Transport Authority, responsible for a major construction program and for integrating statewide public transport services. [4] In 2010, his role was expanded when he was appointed to serve a five-year term as Director-General of the WA Department of Transport, Commissioner of Main Roads Western Australia and CEO of the Public Transport Authority, concurrently. [5] The integration of two new roles with his ongoing Public Transport Authority role was intended to improve transport planning, policy and budgeting. [6] He was tasked with shaping the strategic direction of transport in the state. [7]

In April 2015, Waldock was reappointed as head of the three key WA transport agencies to 29 July 2016 upon which he retired. [8] [9] [10]

Waldock is a Director of Lifeline WA, Leadership WA, and the Australian Urban Design Research Centre. [11]

Rail transport in Western Australia

Railways in Western Australia were developed in the 19th century both by the Government of Western Australia and a number of private companies. Today passenger rail services are controlled by the Public Transport Authority through Transperth, which operates public transport in Perth, and Transwa, which operates country passenger services. Great Southern Rail operates the Indian Pacific.

The Public Works Department (PWD) was the State Government Agency of Western Australia, which was charged with providing and maintaining public infrastructure such as dams, water supplies, schools, hospitals, harbours and other public buildings. The Department is no longer operational, having its responsibilities reassigned to other State Government Departments and corporate entities since 1985.

Main Roads Western Australia is a statutory authority of the Government of Western Australia that is responsible for implementing the state's policies on road access and main roads. It operates under the Main Roads Act 1930 (WA).

Forrest Highway Highway in Western Australia

Forrest Highway is a 95-kilometre-long (59 mi) highway in Western Australia's Peel and South West regions, extending Perth's Kwinana Freeway from east of Mandurah down to Bunbury. Old Coast Road was the original Mandurah–Bunbury route, dating back to the 1840s. Part of that road, and the Australind Bypass around Australind and Eaton, were subsumed by Forrest Highway. The highway begins at Kwinana Freeway's southern terminus in Ravenswood, continues around the Peel Inlet to Lake Clifton, and heads south to finish at Bunbury's Eelup Roundabout. There are a number of at-grade intersections with minor roads in the shires of Murray, Waroona, and Harvey including Greenlands Road and Old Bunbury Road, both of which connect to South Western Highway near Pinjarra.

Representing the Australian Labor Party, she has been the member for the electoral district of West Swan in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly, the lower house of the Parliament of Western Australia, since 6 September 2008. Since 17 March 2017, she has been the minister for transport and minister for planning. Since 19 March 2021, she has also been the minister for ports. From 17 March 2017 to 13 December 2018, she was the minister for lands.

Aubin Grove railway station Railway station in Western Australia

Aubin Grove railway station is a commuter railway station serving Atwell, Aubin Grove, Hammond Park and Success, which are suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. It is on the Mandurah line, which is part of the Transperth network, and is located immediately north of Russell Road in the median of the Kwinana Freeway. It has two platform faces on a singular island platform, which is linked to either side of the freeway by a pedestrian overpass. Services run every 10 minutes during peak and every 15 minutes between peak. The journey to Perth railway station is 23.8 kilometres (14.8 mi) and takes 21 minutes. The station has a bus interchange with four bus stands and seven regular bus routes.

The Perth Freight Link was a proposed $1.9 billion project in Perth, Western Australia to improve the road freight link between Kewdale and Fremantle Harbour. The project was announced by the state government in May 2014, but was cancelled following a change of government at the March 2017 state election.

The Department of Transport (DOT) is a government department in Victoria, Australia. Commencing operation on 1 January 2019, it is responsible for ongoing operation and coordination of the state's transport networks, as well as the delivery of new and upgraded transport infrastructure. It also absorbed most functions of VicRoads and Public Transport Victoria on 1 July 2019.
