Rehan Sheikh is a Pakistani film and television actor, director, writer, film maker and producer. For his portrayal of Hafiz Ilyas in social drama Inkaar , he received critical praise and a nomination of Best Actor at Lux Style Awards. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Early life

Sheikh was born in London to veteran journalist Aslam Sheikh (d. 2003), who served as director-general of the Associated Press of Pakistan and was also "among the pioneers of economic journalism in Pakistan", [5] whose older brother was a film director and screenwriter.

Sheikh's mother is a teacher and spent a life time in serving the education sector. He has two sisters, both Fulbright scholars. [6]

Career

Sheikh started with a youth theater group in South London, having worked in Tamasha Theatre Company's Women of the Dust in 1992. [7]

While visiting Pakistan on holiday, he directed, wrote and acted in a theater performance in Rawalpindi, and after being spotted by Sarmad Sehbai he got his first TV role in PTV's Aaghosh in 1993, which eventually became a classic. [8] He went on do a number of popular drama serials and also was the host of a popular travel show Travel Guide of Pakistan.

Some of his notable performances include Haseena Moin's PTV classic serial The Castle: Aik Umeed and the Hum TV play Sanjha , which earned him a nomination for best supporting actor at the 1st Hum Awards. His other major serials include Awazain, Bisat, Kiran Kahani, Dozukh, Maa, Nasal, and Mohlat.

Sheikh wrote, directed, acted and wrote some of the songs for the film Azad. [9]

It is given in honor of an actor who has delivered an outstanding performance in a supporting role while working within the television industry. The 1st Hum Awards was held in 2013, Mohib Mirza was the first winner of the award for his role in Shehr-e-Zaat. The award has commonly been referred to as the hum for Best Supporting Actor. Currently, nominees are determined by single transferable vote, within the actors and jury branch of HTNEC; winners are selected by a plurality vote from the entire eligible voting members of the Hum. Multiple nominations for an actor in same category but for different work is eligible.

During the ceremony, HTNEC presented Hum Awards in 25 categories along with 3 in honorary and 2 in special categories. The ceremony, televised in Pakistan by Hum TV, was produced and directed by Nazeer Saeed Janjua while executive produced by Maimona Siddiqui.

The Castle: Aik Umeed is a 2001 Pakistani television drama series, the third series made by Elysée Productions. It was scripted by Haseena Moin, produced by Tasmina Sheikh, and directed by Zulfiqar Sheikh. Actors Talat Hussain, Samina Ahmad, Shakeel, Shagufta Ejaz, Bilal Ahmad, Humayun Saeed, Asma Anwar, Nayyar Ejaz, Tasmina Sheikh, and Rehan Sheikh appeared. The Scottish politician Alex Salmond has a brief non-speaking cameo as a ghost at one point, and is listed in the credits for all 24 episodes.

<i>Chupan Chupai</i> 2017 Pakistani film

Chupan Chupai is a 2017 Pakistani comedy thriller film, directed by Mohsin Ali. The film stars Ahsan Khan, Neelam Muneer and Ali Rizvi in the lead cast. It released on 29 December 2017 under the banner of Huzu Productions, and was distributed by Hum Films. The film received generally positive reviews from critics and audience, however, the film only grossed 7.00 crore against its 4.00 crore budget.

Salman Saqib Sheikh, credited as Mani, is a Pakistani actor, politician and host. Mani is mostly known for his comic roles. He started his career as an anchor and first roadshow host before becoming a sitcom and comedy actor.

Wahaj Ali is a Pakistani actor known for his appearance on Urdu television. After making his television debut with the soap serial Ishq Ibadat in 2015, Ali gained critical praise for playing Bangladeshi freedom fighter Shafi Imam Rumi in Jo Bichar Gaye (2021). He has also appeared in other notable roles. In 2023, Ali earned wider recognition, especially across the South Asian continent, for his portrayal of Murtasim Khan in the romance drama Tere Bin.

Umera Ahmed is a Pakistani writer, author and screenwriter. She is best known for her novels and plays Shehr-e-Zaat, Pir-e-Kamil, Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Alif, Durr-e-Shehwar, Daam, Man-o-Salwa, Qaid-e-Tanhai, Digest Writer, Maat, Kankar, Meri Zaat Zarra-e-Benishan, Doraha and Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay. Umera Ahmed is one of the most widely-read and popular Urdu fiction novelists and screenplay writers of this era.
