Relyon is a British manufacturer of beds and mattresses in Wellington, in Somerset. [1] In 2009 it had 500 employees. [2]

History

The company was established in 1858 as Price Brothers and Co., [1] and was renamed to Relyon in 1935.[ citation needed ]

It was bought by Steinhoff International in 2001.[ citation needed ] It joined the Furniture Industry Sustainability Programme in 2013. [3] [4] In the same year it received a Furniture Industry Research Association certification of its beds they designed for commercial use. [5]

Steinhoff sold the company, together with Bensons for Beds and Harveys, in November 2019 to Alteri Investors, a British private equity group. [6]

He was an avid horse breeder, and in 2016 was reported to be one of Africa's richest people, worth $400 million. Joining forces with Christo Wiese in 2014, they embarked on an aggressive international expansion programme. The share price of their conglomerate reached a peak in March 2016, favouring their strategy of paying for dividends and acquisitions by sales of stock.

Brantano (UK) Ltd was a British shoe retailer, owned by Alteri Investors. The company was started in 1998 by the purchase of 47 Shoe City stores from the British Shoe Corporation by the Belgian retailer Brantano Footwear. It was owned by Macintosh Retail Group until it was bought by Alteri in October 2015. The company entered administration in March 2017 and closed its last store in June 2017.

Bruno Ewald Steinhoff is a German billionaire businessman, the founder of Steinhoff International, a South African-based international retail holding company, and its executive chairman until September 2008. He is now a non-executive director, and a member of the supervisory board.
