Retno Lestari Priansari Marsudi (born 27 November 1962) is an Indonesian diplomat who has been serving as the Minister for Foreign Affairs in the Cabinet of Joko Widodo since 2014. She is the first female minister appointed to the post. [1] She was previously the Indonesian Ambassador to the Netherlands from 2012 to 2014,as well as Ambassador to Iceland and Norway from 2005 to 2008. [2]
Marsudi was born Retno Lestari Priansari and was born on 27 November 1962 in Semarang,Central Java,as the eldest child and daughter of the five children of Moch Sidik (1934–2016),a high school teacher and veteran soldier,and Retno Werdiningsih (b. 1940),a high school employee. [3] She graduated from SMAN 3 Semarang and continued her study in International Relations,graduating from Gadjah Mada University in 1985. She then pursued a Master's degree in International European Law &Policy at The Hague University of Applied Science and followed the Foreign Ministry training program at the Netherlands Institute of International Relations Clingendael. [4]
Marsudi is married to Agus Marsudi,an architect,and has had two sons,Dyota (b. 8 February 1989) and Bagas Marsudi (b. 1993). [3] The two of them then often carry out the agenda of climbing Mount Merapi together once a year. [3]
Dyota is married to Natalia Rialucky Marsudi and has had a son,Manggala Astabrata Marsudi,who was Marsudi's eldest grandson. [5]
Marsudi joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from university. Between 1997 and 2001,Marsudi served as First Secretary for Economic Affairs at the Indonesian Embassy in The Hague,Netherlands. In 2001,she was appointed as Director of Europe and America Affairs. [6] Marsudi was promoted to Director of West Europe Affairs in 2003. [7]
In 2005,Marsudi was appointed as the Indonesian Ambassador to Norway and Iceland. [6] During her tenure,she was awarded the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit in December 2011,the first Indonesian to receive the award. [8] She also briefly took up the study of human rights at the University of Oslo. Marsudi returned to Jakarta and was appointed Director General for European and American Affairs.
Marsudi was appointed as Indonesian Ambassador to the Netherlands in 2011 by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. [9] She has also led various multilateral negotiations and bilateral consultations with the EU,ASEM,and FEALAC. [6]
On 27 October 2014,Marsudi was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs by President Joko Widodo in his Working Cabinet. [10]
In 2021,Marsudi was appointed co-chair –alongside Karina Gould and Lia Tadesse –of the COVAX Advance Market Commitment (AMC) Engagement Group;the AMC is a financing instrument established to support the participation of 92 lower-middle and low-income economies in the COVAX Facility and ensure their access to COVID-19 vaccines. Israel and Indonesia having a bad relations and have no formal diplomatic ties,although they maintain quiet trade,tourism and security contacts. In 2012,Indonesia spoke of upgrading relations with Israel and opening a consulate in Ramallah,but this agreement was never implemented.
Indonesia and the Netherlands share a special relationship,embedded in their shared history of colonial interactions for centuries. It began during the spice trade as the Netherlands established the Dutch East Indies Company (VOC) trading post in what is now Indonesia,before colonising it as the Dutch East Indies until the mid-20th century. Indonesia was the largest former Dutch colony. In the early 21st century,the Dutch government has committed to boosting its relationship with Indonesia,noting that economic,political,and interpersonal contacts should be further strengthened.

Indonesia has refused to recognize the State of Israel until a peace agreement is reached between Israel and the State of Palestine. Indonesia has an embassy in Nairobi,also accredited to Mauritius,Seychelles,and Uganda,and in 2022 Kenya established its embassy in Jakarta. Indonesia and Tanzania established diplomatic relations on 13 January 1965. The relations between both nations are mostly in the agriculture sector,where Indonesia provides training for Tanzanian farmers. In 2011 both countries established Indonesia-Tanzania Joint Agriculture Cooperation Committee (JACC),as a vehicle to improve agricultural sector co-operations,such as capacity building through training,joint research,and the expansion of market access to agricultural products. Indonesia has an embassy in Dar es Salaam. Tanzania has a non-resident ambassador in Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia. Since 2023,Tanzania had opened an embassy in Jakarta. Both countries are members of multilateral organisations such as World Trade Organization (WTO),the Group of 77 and Non-Aligned Movement.
Alexander Andries Maramis,more commonly known simply as A. A. Maramis,was an Indonesian politician and National Hero of Indonesia,who was involved in the struggle for independence. He was a member of the Investigating Committee for Preparatory Work for Independence (BPUPK),the organization which drafted the Constitution of Indonesia. In the early stages of the Indonesian government,following the Proclamation of Independence,he served as both Minister of Finance and Minister of Foreign Affairs. After the end of the Indonesian National Revolution,he served as the Indonesian ambassador to several nations,including the Philippines,West Germany,and the Soviet Union.

Enggartiasto Lukita is an Indonesian politician and businessman. He served as the Minister of Trade from 27 July 2016 until 23 October 2019. He was previously renown as the Chairman of Indonesian Real Estate in 1992–1995 and the member of Indonesian People's Representative Council for three terms from 2000–2004,2004–2009,and 2009–2013 under the Golkar Party. In 2013 Enggartiasto Lukita decided to join the Nasdem Party which was declared by his previous partner in Golkar,Surya Paloh. He was appointed as the Minister of Trade during President Joko Widodo's second cabinet reshuffle.
Mahendra Siregar is the chief of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) of Indonesia. He previously served as Deputy Foreign Minister and was formerly the Indonesian Ambassador to the United States. On 25 October 2019,he was appointed as the deputy minister of foreign affairs supporting Indonesian foreign minister Retno Marsudi in the second Jokowi cabinet appointed two days earlier on 23 October. Earlier,he had been appointed as Ambassador to the US by President Joko Widodo in 2018. He took up his post in Washington DC in early 2019. Mahendra is a respected economist in Indonesia who has held various senior positions within the Indonesian bureaucracy.

The 2022 G20 Bali summit was the seventeenth meeting of Group of Twenty (G20),which was held in Nusa Dua,Bali,Indonesia on 15–16 November 2022. Indonesia's presidency began on 1 December 2021,leading up to the summit in the fourth quarter of 2022. The presidency handover ceremony was held as an intimate event,in which the G20 presidency gavel was transferred from Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi to Indonesian president Joko Widodo at the close of the Rome summit. Preceding the G20 Leaders Summit,a youth engagement group of the G20,Youth20 (Y20) held its Y20 Indonesia 2022 Summit in Jakarta and Bandung in July 2022.
