Roger Robinson, better known as Robbo Ranx, is a UK dancehall and reggae DJ. [1] He presented shows on BBC Radio 1Xtra for twelve years. [1]

Career

Born in Northwest London, [2] Ranx won three Sony Radio Awards for the best weekly show and two for best live event. He interviewed a variety of reggae artists, including Sizzla's first ever radio interview,[ citation needed ] as well as Buju Banton, Capleton and Bounty Killer. He also presented the weekly Dancehall music TV show Turn it Up on the UK’s Channel U music network.

Robbo Ranx early introduction to music was through the Tippertone sound system in the late 80's, which he co-founded with a school friend. [3]

In 1989 he set up the record label Musik Street, recording and releasing tracks by artists such as General Levy, Sweetie Irie, Chuckie Star, Bobo General, Junior Dan and Jack Radics between 1989 and 1996.

In 1994 he helped to form Skyline FM, a pirate radio station in west London. The success of the station led to Robbo Ranx hosting Unique FM's The Street Experience, a weekly show reflecting the reggae music scene. In 2000, he left the pirate radio scene and joined Choice FM to host a weekly reggae dancehall show.

In 1998, Ranx took Dancehall to London’s west and held down an 11-year residency with his weekly ‘Uptown Splurt’ parties at Cameo’s Nights Club. Pulling audience of 400 plus hosting act such as Sean Paul, Elephant Man, Shaggy, Stonelove and Bass Odyssey.

After a short spell on London's Choice FM, in 2002 Robbo Ranx joined BBC Radio 1Xtra a digital radio station that was launched on the DAB Digital Radio platform. He hosted the 'Dancehall Splurt' radio show twice a week. In 2004, he won two Sony Radio Academy Awards for his weekly radio show and 1Xtra's broadcast of Sting 2003, one Jamaica's biggest dancehall festival.

He left 1Xtra in 2014 and launched his own online radio network Robbo Ranx Radio in October 2014. [1]

Online streaming platform Mixcloud awarded Robbo Ranx the Best Online Music Show 2018 for his Dancehall 360 weekly program. [4]

Christopher Clarke, known professionally as Chris Goldfinger, is a former BBC Radio 1 disc jockey who presented the station's reggae dancehall show from 1996 to September 2009.

Kenshin Iryo, better known by his stage name Million Stylez, is a Swedish dancehall artist.

David Michael "Ram Jam" Rodigan MBE OD is a British radio DJ who also performs as a disc jockey. Known for his selections of reggae and dancehall music, he has played on stations including Radio London, Capital 95.8, Kiss 100, BBC Radio 1Xtra, BBC Radio 2 and BFBS Radio.

Reggae is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s. Australia has several bands and sound systems that play reggae music in a style faithful to its expression in Jamaica. She most recently presented The Leisure Society on BBC Radio 6 Music where she interviewed cultural icons including Goldie, Tracey Emin, Kelley Deal, Laurie Vincent from Slaves and Cosey Fanni Tutti. Previously she co-hosted The Surgery alongside Radha Modgil. She has also presented Gemma Cairney on BBC Radio 1 weekends 7 am – 10 am and later weekdays 4 am – 6:30 am, switching with Dev. More recently she has regularly covered for Lauren Laverne, Mary Ann Hobbs, Chris Hawkins, Steve Lamacq, Cerys Matthews and Craig Charles on BBC Radio 6 Music. Cairney is also an Oxfam ambassador.

The Skints

The Skints are an English reggae punk band from London, described by Clash Music as “the torchbearers for modern British reggae music.” The Skints mix reggae, ska, dub, punk rock, dancehall, soul, and rap, touring extensively across the UK, Europe and the United States. Their album Swimming Lessons (2019) debuted at number 1 on the Billboard reggae chart. Their original style of music has been described as "tropical punk".

Protoje Jamaican musician

Oje Ken Ollivierre, popularly known as Protoje, is a contemporary reggae singer and songwriter from Jamaica. His mother is Jamaican singer Lorna Bennett, best known for her 1972 rendition of "Breakfast in Bed". His father is a former calypso singer Mike Ollivierre from the island nation of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. He has one daughter with his wife Lindsay.

BBC Radio 1Xtra is a digital urban contemporary and black music radio station owned and operated by the BBC. Launched at 6 PM on 16 August 2002, it had been code named Network X during the consultation period and is the sister station to BBC Radio 1. The station is broadcast from the 8th floor of Broadcasting House, shared with Radio 1 and the Asian Network. At the time, many electronic programming guides called the station ‘1 Xtra BBC’.

Clara Amfo British radio presenter

Clara Amfo is an English television and radio presenter and voice-over artist. She is known for presenting her shows on BBC Radio 1. In 2020, she competed in the eighteenth series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Kemar Christopher "Ding Dong" Dwaine Ottey is a dancehall reggae artist and dancer. He was a dancer before becoming a Jamaican deejay (artiste) and dancehall reggae recording artist. His most notable songs "Bad Man Forward / Bad Man Pull Up" (2005) "Fling" and "Genna Bounce" released in 2017 has assisted in his global appeal. He founded the dancing syndicate Ravers Clavers.

Liondub Musical artist

Erik Weiss better known by his stage name Liondub, is an American DJ, producer, and Record Label owner who specializes in jungle, drum and bass, reggae, dancehall, hip hop and dubstep.

The Heatwave is a dancehall sound system and production crew from London. They have performed at clubs and festivals worldwide since 2003, and produced and released music since 2004.
