Gerry Rogers is a Canadian documentary filmmaker and politician. She was leader of the Newfoundland and Labrador New Democratic Party from 2018 until 2019. The Nickel Independent Film Festival is an annual film festival held in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The festival was conceived in 2001 by filmmaker Roger Maunder to allow local filmmakers to exhibit their film and video work. The festival is named after the Nickel Theatre which was the first theatre in Newfoundland to have talking film feature movies. Since then the festival has grown to include other Canadian and even international short films, features, documentaries and music videos. The festival is held at the LSPU hall which is run by the Resource Centre for the Arts, an artist-run company.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Alliance was a political party in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The party was created by former PC Party president Graydon Pelley in November 2018, following a split over the direction of the party. It was registered with Elections Newfoundland and Labrador in April 2019. In the 2019 and 2021 provincial elections the party failed to win any seats in the legislature. Pelley resigned from the party in 2023. The party was de-registered on March 30, 2023.
St. John's International Women's Film Festival (SJIWWF) is an annual film festival based in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, highlighting films by women. It is one of the longest-running festivals focusing on films made by women in the world. Established in 1989, the festival includes a year-long program of film screenings, workshops, and other events promoting women filmmakers. The main event is a five-day Film Forum in October with several thousand attendees and hundreds of submissions.
John Abbott is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly in the 2021 provincial election. He defeated the leader of the New Democratic Party, Alison Coffin, to represent the electoral district of St. John's East-Quidi Vidi as a member of the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador. On April 8, 2021, he was appointed Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development. On May 12, 2021, Supreme Court Justice Donald Burrage rejected Coffin's bid for a recount, arguing that there was not sufficient evidence. Abbott was subsequently sworn in as MHA on May 18, 2021. On June 14, 2023, he was appointed Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure.

She represents the electoral district of St. Barbe-L'Anse aux Meadows as a member of the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador. She became the first female mayor of St. Anthony in 2019.

The 2024 Conception Bay East–Bell Island provincial by-election is scheduled to be held on January 29, 2024. The election was triggered by the resignation of Progressive Conservative MHA David Brazil.
