Rosie and the Goldbug are a British indie-rock trio. [1]
The band are from Cornwall, England. [2] They formed in 2007, after lead singer and keyboard player Rosie Vanier had completed her music studies at Roehampton University and returned home, eager to form a band. [1] [3] [4] The "Goldbug" in the name refers to a story by Edgar Allan Poe. [1]
According to The Guardian , Vanier grew up in Bodmin Moor "on a plot of land with no electricity, no heat, no TV, just a piano." [1] Her mother and part-Native American father used to go on cycle tours in Europe, playing folk ballads along the way to entertain passers-by. [1] The bass player and guitarist, Lee "Pixie" Matthews, is the "son of hippie-surfer parents who spent his childhood in a beachside caravan." [1] The drummer, Sarah "Plums" Morgan, had previously played with a Japanese drumming ensemble. [1] Matthews and Morgan knew each other from being university students in Exmouth; and had played in a band together before joining Vanier. [3] [4]
Rosie and the Goldbug have built up a reputation as a live band in Cornwall and started to attract wider attention. [3] They toured Europe with Cyndi Lauper for most of 2008. [5] [6] The band released their music on their manager's label, Lover Records. They said that going it alone was an easy decision to make; according to the BBC , they wanted "to make it purely on talent alone and stay true to their roots" and were hoping that without relying on the support of a major label, people would be "more honest and raw about them." [3] They entered into writing partnerships with Marcella Detroit and Glaswegian band El Presidente on some of the tracks of their debut album. [3] Their first EP and album were produced by Jim Eliot of electropop duo Kish Mauve. [3]
Despite positive response from the music press, a management dispute temporarily derailed the project. [7] and on 14 August 2009, the band announced via their MySpace site that "Rosie and the Goldbug are over". The band members voiced regret, but did not go into any detail as to what had caused their decision. [8] [9]
The band had planned to record a second album in the U.S., with new management. [9] Vanier subsequently embarked on a solo project; she completed a debut solo EP in November 2010. [10] Vanier and bassist Lee "Pixie" Matthews continued to work with each other, touring (with guitarist Rich Searby and drummer Joseph "Bubs" Taylor) as "Rosie and the Vandals" in 2013 [11] and releasing the Bad in Love EP as a trio with Taylor in 2014, under the band name Lightknife. [12]
Vanier subsequently stated despite the changing name, the Rosie and The Goldbug project was never completely abandoned. She told West Briton, "They were all Rosie and the Goldbug in disguise. I definitely felt like a suppressed artist for a while." [7]

After signing a new deal with Public Records towards the end of 2014, a renewed Rosie and Goldbug - now consisting of Vanier, Matthews on bass and Taylor on drums - are once again recording and releasing new music.
Single 'Running In The Dark', recorded at The Cube studio near Truro and produced by Gareth Young, is due for release on 4 May 2015. Further singles and an EP are planned for later in 2015.
The band's style mixes electronics and rock and was described as "Kate Bush on crack with Goldfrapp on synths," with Vanier's voice moving "effortlessly from seductive whispers to banshee wails." [1] Q Magazine characterised it as "somewhere between Siouxsie & The Banshees and Cyndi Lauper having a sing-off with Kate Bush; the band’s spiky synth stabs providing the perfect canvas for Vanier's enchanting howl." [4] Simon Price, writing for The Independent , stated that the "drama-pop trio" was like a throwback to "more interesting times", noting that "Classically trained singer-pianist Rosie Vanier has a voice which leaps from sugary pop to operatic whoops, her ivories chiming through a repertoire ranging from the turbulent to the serene, and even juddering Moroder electro-disco." [13] Morgan's playing was characterised in an NME review of a live concert as "primal, cavewoman-with-class drum bashing". [14] Clash announced in September 2008 that the band had become "one of the hottest names to drop on the indie scene", describing the group as "sexually charged". [15]
The Pixies are an American alternative rock band formed in 1986, in Boston, Massachusetts. Until 2013, the band consisted of Black Francis, Joey Santiago, Kim Deal and David Lovering (drums). They disbanded acrimoniously in 1993 but reunited in 2004. After Deal left in 2013, the Pixies hired Kim Shattuck as a touring bassist; she was replaced later that year by Paz Lenchantin, who became a permanent member in 2016.
Cynthia Ann Stephanie Lauper is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and activist. Her career has spanned over 40 years. Her album She's So Unusual (1983) was the first debut album by a female artist to achieve four top-five hits on the Billboard Hot 100—"Girls Just Want to Have Fun", "Time After Time", "She Bop", and "All Through the Night"—and earned Lauper the Best New Artist award at the 27th Annual Grammy Awards in 1985. Her success continued with the soundtrack for the motion picture The Goonies (1985) and her second record True Colors (1986). This album included the number-one single "True Colors" and "Change of Heart", which peaked at number three. In 1989, Lauper saw success with "I Drove All Night" and in 1993, had her first dance club hit with "That's What I Think".
"She Bop" is a song by American singer-songwriter Cyndi Lauper, released as the third single from her debut studio album, She's So Unusual (1983). It reached number three on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in September 1984. Worldwide, the song is her third most commercially successful single after "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" and "Time After Time", and also reached number 46 on the UK Singles Chart and number six on the ARIA Singles Chart. "She Bop" was Lauper's third consecutive top 5 on the Hot 100. She recorded a quieter version of the song for her 2005 album The Body Acoustic.
David Sullivan Lovering is an American musician and magician. He is best known as the drummer for the alternative rock band Pixies, which he joined in 1986. After the band's breakup in 1993, Lovering drummed with several other acts, including The Martinis, Cracker, Nitzer Ebb and Tanya Donelly. He also pursued a magic career as the Scientific Phenomenalist, performing scientific and physics-based experiments on stage. When the Pixies reunited in 2004, Lovering returned as the band's drummer.
The Goonies: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is the official soundtrack album released by Epic Records in conjunction with the 1985 film The Goonies. The album is known primarily because it includes the song "The Goonies 'R' Good Enough" by singer Cyndi Lauper, who had a cameo in the film. The album was released in LP and cassette format internationally, and a limited CD release in some countries.
Jules Mark Shear is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He wrote the Cyndi Lauper hit single "All Through the Night", the Bangles' hit "If She Knew What She Wants", and the Ignatius Jones and Allison Moyet hit "Whispering Your Name" and charted a hit as a performer with "Steady" in 1985.

Kaleidoscope is the third studio album by British rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees, released on 1 August 1980 by Polydor Records. With the departure of John McKay and Kenny Morris and their replacement by two new musicians, Budgie on drums and John McGeoch on guitars, the band changed their musical direction and offered an album containing a wide variety of colors. Gossip is an American indie rock band formed in Searcy, Arkansas. For most of their career, the band has consisted of singer Beth Ditto, multi-instrumentalist Brace Paine, and drummer Hannah Blilie. After releasing several recordings, the band broke through with their 2006 studio album, Standing in the Way of Control. A follow-up, Music for Men, was released in 2009. The band played a mix of post-punk revival, indie rock, and dance-rock. Their fifth album, A Joyful Noise, was released in May 2012. They disbanded in 2016 but reformed to embark on an anniversary tour for Music for Men in 2019 and are set to release new music in 2024.

True Colors was an annual music event created by American recording artist Cyndi Lauper. The concerts were headlined by Lauper and featured various music and comedy acts. Beginning in 2007, the trek supported the Human Rights Campaign, PFLAG and the Matthew Shepard Foundation. Other local and private LGBT charities and foundations were supported as the event grew. The tour began with 16 shows in 2007 expanding to 25 shows in 2008. Lauper's set during the 2008 tour was basically the North American leg of her worldwide Bring Ya to the Brink Tour that year. An outing in 2009 was planned and later cancelled. In lieu of the tour, Lauper partnered with Broadway Impact to create the True Colors Cabaret. The show began September 28, 2009 and ran once a month at Feinstein's at Loews Regency. It featured performances from Lauper, Rufus Wainwright, Lea Michele, Jonathan Groff, Jason Mraz, Sara Bareilles, Karen Olivo, Melinda Doolittle and Broadway Inspirational Voices. The shows ran until February 2010.

Bring Ya to the Brink is American singer Cyndi Lauper's tenth studio album, released on May 14, 2008 in Japan, and 13 days later worldwide. The album is a collection of dance-oriented songs and features collaborations with Basement Jaxx, Richard Morel, Max Martin and Kleerup, among others. Regarded as one of the singer's best works at the time it was released, the Songwriters Hall of Fame has regarded the album track "High and Mighty" as one of Lauper's key songs. The album received a nomination for Best Dance/Electronica Album at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards. The song "Set Your Heart" was released as a promotional single in Japan in early 2008, while "Same Ol' Story" was the first official single released on May 6, 2008. Kiss is the second EP released by Chara, which was released on September 24, 2008. It was her first EP marketed as a mini-album as opposed to a single. It debuted at #30 on the Japanese Oricon album charts, and charted in the top 300 for six weeks.
Rosie Vanier is a British singer and keyboard player from Cornwall. She was a founding member and the front woman of Rosie and the Goldbug; following the break-up of the band in 2009, she embarked on a solo career, and went on to form the trio Lightknife in 2014.
