The Bangladesh Armed Forces are the military forces of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. They consist of the three uniformed military services: the Bangladesh Army, the Bangladesh Navy and the Bangladesh Air Force. The Armed Forces are under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Defence of the Government of Bangladesh, and are directly administered by the Armed Forces Division of the Prime Minister's Office. The President of Bangladesh serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. Bangladesh has the third-largest defence budget in South Asia and according to the Global Firepower index, The Bangladeshi military is the 37th strongest in the world and the third most powerful military force in South Asia. Border Guard Bangladesh and Bangladesh Coast Guard are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Home Affairs during peacetime, but during wartime they fall under the command of Bangladesh Army and Bangladesh Navy respectively.
Chattogram, also know as Chittagong, is the second-largest city in Bangladesh. Home to the Port of Chittagong, it is the busiest port in Bangladesh and the Bay of Bengal. It is the administrative seat of an eponymous division and district. The city is located on the banks of the Karnaphuli River between the Chattogram Hill Tracts and the Bay of Bengal. The Greater Chattogram Area had a population of more than 5.2 million in 2022. In 2020, the city area had a population of more than 3.9 million. The city is home to many large local businesses and plays an important role in the Bangladeshi economy.
Operation Searchlight was a military operation carried out by the Pakistan Army in an effort to curb the Bengali nationalist movement in former East Pakistan in March 1971. Pakistan retrospectively justified the operation on the basis of anti-Bihari violence carried out en masse by the Bengalis earlier that month. Ordered by the central government in West Pakistan, the original plans envisioned taking control of all of East Pakistan's major cities on 26 March, and then eliminating all Bengali opposition, whether political or military, within the following month.
The Bangladesh Army is the land warfare branch and the largest component of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. The primary mission of the Army is to provide necessary forces and capabilities to deliver the Bangladeshi government's security and defence strategies and defending the nation's territorial integrity against external attack. Control of personnel and operations is administered by the Army Headquarters, Dhaka. The Bangladesh Army is also constitutionally obligated to assist the government and it's civilian agencies during times of domestic national emergency. This additional role is commonly referred to as "aid to civil administration".
Muhammad Ataul Gani Osmani, was a Bengali military leader. Osmani's career spanned five decades, beginning with service in the British Indian Army in 1939. He fought in the Burma Campaign during World War II. After the partition of India in 1947, he joined the Pakistan Army and served in the East Bengal Regiment, retiring as a colonel in 1967. Osmani joined the Provisional Government of Bangladesh in 1971 as the commander-in-chief of the nascent Bangladesh Forces. Regarded as the founder of the Bangladesh Armed Forces, Osmani retired as a four-star general from the Bangladesh Army in 1972.
The Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) is an agency of the Government of Bangladesh and is administered under the jurisdiction of the Prime Minister's Office. Its objective is to manage the various export processing zones in Bangladesh. BEPZA currently oversees the operations of eight export processing zones (EPZ). A ninth zone is scheduled to open in the future. Recently government has announced that in 15 years 100 new EPZ and SEZ will be established. Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, ndc, psc is the current Executive Chairman of BEPZA. The Government provides numerous incentives for investors for opening factories in EPZs. For example, new factories enjoy tax holidays for 5 years. Also, labour unions and other activities that are often viewed detrimental to productivity, are banned inside the EPZs. In order to stimulate rapid economic growth of the country, particularly through industrialization, the government has adopted an 'Open Door Policy' to attract foreign investment to Bangladesh. The BEPZA is the official organ of the government to promote, attract and facilitate foreign investment in the EPZs. Besides, BEPZA as the competent Authority performs inspection & supervision of the compliances of the enterprises related to social & environmental issues, safety & security at work place in order to maintain harmonious labour-management & industrial relations in EPZs. The primary objective of an EPZ is to provide special areas where potential investors would find a congenial investment climate free from cumbersome procedures. Bangladesh's export revenue in FY23 is $55.55 billion, the highest amount ever.

Sina Ibn Jamali, awc, psc is a retired lieutenant general of the Bangladesh Army. During his tenures he held the appointments of Director Military Operations, Adjutant General, Bangladesh Army, General Officer Commanding of 24 Infantry Division, Chittagong and the Chief of General Staff in Army Headquarters. He also served as the president of Bangladesh Cricket Board from August 2007 to September 2009. Currently he is serving as Corporate Adviser at Radiant Pharmaceuticals Ltd, MD & CEO of Radiant Nutraceuticals Ltd, Radiant Distribution Ltd and Pharmacil Ltd.
Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ), also known as Chittagong EPZ, is the first and one of the eight export processing zones in Bangladesh located at South Halishahar in Chittagong. It was established in 1983. In 2010, CEPZ was ranked third in the best cost-competitiveness category and fourth as the best economic potential in the global ranking in a survey among the world's 700 economic zones carried out by FDi magazine. Up to 2022-23, the EPZ has received cumulative investment of US$2.04 billion and have generated cumulative exports of US$40.5bn.
Karnaphuli Export Processing Zone is an export processing zone in Bangladesh located at the city of Chittagong. It was established in September 2006 on about 222.42 acres of lands in North Patenga and Halishahar area in the city.
The Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority or BEZA is an agency of the government of Bangladesh tasked with developing special economic zones.
Abul Hossain, ndc, psc, is a retired three-star rank Bangladesh Army officer. He was a lieutenant general. He served as the director general of Border Guards Bangladesh. Before that he served as military secretary to President Md Abdul Hamid and as Engineer-in-chief at Army Headquarters, Commandant of Military Institute of Science and Technology, Chief Engineer of Dhaka City Corporation, Director of Special Works Organization and Director of Works & Chief Engineer of the Bangladesh Army. He was also ex-officio Chairman of Shimanto Bank which is a sister concern of BGB Welfare Trust.
The Government agencies in Bangladesh are state controlled organizations that act independently to carry out the policies of the Government of Bangladesh. The Government Ministries are relatively small and merely policy-making organizations, allowed to control agencies by policy decisions. Some of the work of the government is carried out through state enterprises or limited companies.

Sheikh Mohammad Shafiuddin Ahmed is a four star general of the Bangladesh Army and the current Chief of Army Staff (CAS) of the Bangladesh Army since June 2021. Prior to his appointment as CAS, he served as the quartermaster general (QMG) of Bangladesh Army as a lieutenant general. In his 40 year long military career he has also served as director general of Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS), Director of Military Training (DMT), besides commanding an infantry brigade and an infantry division.
Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman is a major general of the Bangladesh Army and the executive chairman of the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (Bepza). Prior to join, BEPZA, he was GOC of the 7th Infantry Division and Commander of Barishal Area. He is a former Defence Advisor of the Bangladesh High Commission to India.
Md Nazrul Islam SPP, ndu, afwc, psc, G is a retired Major General of Bangladesh Army who served as Adjutant General at Army Headquarter. Prior to join AG, he was Director General of Directorate General of Defence Purchase (DGDP). Prior to Join DGDP, he was the Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority. He also served as Area Commander of Logistic Area, Dhaka Cantonment.
Major General Shakil Ahmed SPP, BGBM, nswc, afwc, psc is a two-star general of the Bangladesh Army. Currently he is serving as General Officer Commanding of 66th Infantry Division & Area Commander, Rangpur Area. He served as the Director General of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB). Prior to this appointment, he served as Adjutant general of Army Headquarters. Before that he has served as the General Officers Commanding of 19th Infantry Division in ghatail.
Tofayel Mustafa Sorwar is a Bangladesh Army Brigadier General and the former Additional Director General (Operations) at the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) an elite multi-service unit of the Bangladesh Police. He has been sanctioned by the U.S. Department of the Treasury for human rights violation at RAB during his time at the agency.
