Sahbirin Noor is an Indonesian politician and current the governor of South Kalimantan. [1] His vice governor Rudy Resnawan rebounded after having initially looked poised to lose the gubernatorial election in 2015. [2] Noor has taken the initiative to rehabilitate about sixty-thousand hectares of degraded land in the province. [3]
Provinces are the first-level administrative divisions of Indonesia. It is formerly called the first-level provincial region before the Reform era. Provinces have a local government,consisting of a governor and a regional legislative body. The governor and members of local representative bodies are elected by popular vote for five-year terms,but governors can only serve for two terms. Provincial governments have the authority to regulate and manage their own government affairs,subject to the limits of the central government.
West Kalimantan is a province of Indonesia. It is one of five Indonesian provinces comprising Kalimantan,the Indonesian part of the island of Borneo. Its capital and largest city is Pontianak. It is bordered by East Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan to the east,the Malaysian state of Sarawak to the north,and the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Java Sea to the south. The province has an area of 147,307 km2,and had a population of 4,395,983 at the 2010 Census and 5,414,390 at the 2020 Census;the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 5,541,376. Ethnic groups include the Dayak,Malay,Chinese,Javanese,Bugis,and Madurese. The borders of West Kalimantan roughly trace the mountain ranges surrounding the vast watershed of the Kapuas River,which drains most of the province. The province shares land borders with Central Kalimantan to the southeast,East Kalimantan to the east,and the Malaysian territory of Sarawak to the north.
South Kalimantan is a province of Indonesia. It is the smallest province in Kalimantan,the Indonesian territory of Borneo. The provincial capital was Banjarmasin until 15 February 2022 when it was legally moved to Banjarbaru. The population of South Kalimantan was recorded at just over 3.625 million people at the 2010 Census,and at 4.07 million at the 2020 Census. The official estimate as at mid 2022 was 4,182,080. One of the five Indonesian provinces in Kalimantan,it is bordered by the Makassar Strait in the east,Central Kalimantan in the west and north,the Java Sea in the south,and East Kalimantan in the north. The province also includes the island of Pulau Laut,located off the eastern coast of Kalimantan. The province is divided into 11 regencies and 2 cities. South Kalimantan is the traditional homeland of the Banjar people,although some parts of East Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan are also included in this criterion. Nevertheless,South Kalimantan,especially the former capital city Banjarmasin has always been the cultural capital of Banjarese culture. Many Banjarese have migrated to other parts of Indonesia,as well as neighbouring countries such as Singapore and Malaysia. In addition,other ethnic groups also inhabit the province,such as several groups of the Dayaks,who mostly live in the interior part of the province,as well as the Javanese,who mostly migrated from Java due to the Transmigration program which dated from the Dutch colonial era.It is one of the provinces in Indonesia that has a larger population than Mongolia.
East Kalimantan is a province of Indonesia. Its territory comprises the eastern portion of Borneo. It had a population of about 3.03 million at the 2010 census,3.42 million at the 2015 census,and 3.766 million at the 2020 census;the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 3,859,783. Its capital is the city of Samarinda.
Balikpapan is a seaport city in East Kalimantan,Indonesia. Located on the east coast of the island of Borneo,the city is the financial center of Kalimantan. Balikpapan is the city with the largest economy in Kalimantan with an estimated 2016 GDP at Rp 73.18 trillion. The city has the third busiest airport in Kalimantan after that in Banjarmasin and Pontianak,namely Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan Airport. Port of Semayang was the second busiest seaport in East Kalimantan,after that in Samarinda.
Banjarmasin is a city in South Kalimantan,Indonesia. It was the capital of the province until 15 February 2022. The city is located on a delta island near the junction of the Barito and Martapura rivers. Historically the centre of the Banjarese culture,and the capital of the Sultanate of Banjar,it is the biggest city in South Kalimantan and one of the main cities of Kalimantan. The city covers an area of 98.46 km2 (38.02 sq mi) and had a population of 625,481 as of the 2010 Census and 657,663 as of the 2020 Census;the official estimate as of mid 2022 was 667,489. Greater Banjarmasin,also known as Banjarbakula,is an urban agglomeration of around two million people covering an area of 8,136 km2 (3,141 sq mi),which includes Banjarbaru city and parts of Banjar Regency,Barito Kuala Regency,and Tanah Laut Regency,and accounts for almost half of the province's population. It is the third most populous city on the island of Borneo.
Syamsudin Noor International Airport is an international airport serving Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan,Indonesia. It is located in the district of Landasan Ulin,5 kilometres west of Banjarbaru,capital of South Kalimantan,and about 25 km south-east from the centre of the city of Banjarmasin,the largest city of South Kalimantan. The airport served more than 5.3 million passengers in 2017.
The Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Foundation is an Indonesian non-profit non-governmental organization founded by Dr. Willie Smits in 1991 and dedicated to the conservation of the endangered Bornean orangutan and its habitat through the involvement of local people. It is audited by an external auditor company and operates under the formal agreement with the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry to conserve and rehabilitate orangutans. The BOS Foundation manages orangutan rescue,rehabilitation and re-introduction programmes in East and Central Kalimantan. With more than 400 orangutans in its care and employing more than 440 people at a 10 sites BOS Foundation is the biggest non-human primate conservation non-governmental organization worldwide. Nyaru Menteng and Samboja Lestari are the BOS Foundation sites that have received most extensive media coverage. Nyaru Menteng,founded by Lone Drøscher Nielsen,has been the subject of a number of TV series,including Orangutan Diary,Orangutan Island and the series Orangutan Jungle School,airing since 2018.

Samboja Lestari is a Bornean orangutan rescue and rehabilitation centre,tropical rainforest restoration project,sun bear sanctuary,and eco-lodge located in the district of Samboja in Kutai Kartanegara Regency,East Kalimantan,Indonesia,owned and operated by the Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Foundation. According to its founder,Willie Smits,Samboja Lestari uses the principles of People,Planet,Profit,attempting to provide incomes for local people using conservation. It is located about 38 kilometres from Balikpapan.
Zulkifli Hasan,or colloquially Zulhas,is an Indonesian politician and businessman who is currently serving as Minister of Trade since 15 June 2022. Previously,he served as deputy speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) from 2019 until 2022. A member of the Islam-based National Mandate Party,he is also currently serving as the party's chairman since 2015. Additionally,he served as speaker of the MPR from 2014 to 2019 and was Minister of Environment and Forestry from 2009 until 2014.
The capital of Indonesia is Jakarta,one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Southeast Asia. Previously known as Batavia,it was the de facto capital of the Dutch East Indies. In the early 20th century,the Dutch East Indies government attempted to relocate the capital from Batavia to Bandung. During Indonesia's struggle for independence,the Indonesian government moved the capital to Yogyakarta and then to Bukittinggi,where it remained for a short time until the restoration of control to Jakarta. In 2019,during his annual state of the union address at the parliament,President Joko Widodo announced a plan to relocate the capital to Kalimantan on the island of Borneo. As part of the plan,part of Kutai Kartanegara Regency and Penajam North Paser Regency in East Kalimantan will be carved out to create a new province-level planned city,and the capital will be relocated to a more central location within Indonesia. On 17 January 2022,the name was revealed to be Nusantara.

A. A. Hamidhan,is the popular name of Anang Abdul Hamidhan,an Indonesian freedom fighter and journalist from South Kalimantan. He established the daily Soeara Kalimantan in 1930. It was he who brought news of Indonesia's unilateral declaration of independence to Borneo.

As governor,Sabran has been a proponent of the Indonesian future capital proposal per the first President Sukarno's idea of shifting the national capital to Palangka Raya. Mohammad Noor,known by his Indonesian name Pangeran Mohammad Noor and also written as P. M. Noor, was an Indonesian politician,independence fighter and first Governor of Kalimantan. He was also member of the Investigating Committee for Preparatory Work for Independence and served as the Minister of Public Works between 1956 and 1959.

Nusantara,officially the Capital City of Nusantara,is the future capital of Indonesia,scheduled to be inaugurated on 17 August 2024,coinciding with Indonesian Independence Day. Nusantara will replace Jakarta as the national capital,a position the latter city has held since the country's proclamation of independence in 1945.
