Sam McFarlane (born 5 December 1975) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with North Melbourne in the Australian Football League (AFL). [1]

McFarlane was a member of the Subiaco team that contested the 1995 West Australian Football League Grand Final, which they lost to West Perth. [2]

A wingman, McFarlane was initially recruited by Fremantle, in the 1994 National Draft, but was delisted without playing a senior league game. [3] He was then selected by North Melbourne with pick 33 in the 1995 National Draft. He made his debut in North Melbourne's round six win over Geelong at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in the 1996 AFL season and also played the following round, against the West Coast Eagles at Subiaco Oval. [4] They were his only two appearances in what was a premiership year for North Melbourne. [4]

In a reserves game against St Kilda in 1997, McFarlane was struck in the jaw by forward Barry Hall and had to spend three days in hospital, where he had his jaw wired back together and three titanium plates inserted in his face. [5] He returned to Subiaco after being delisted by North Melbourne.

Kyal Horsley is an Australian rules footballer who formerly played for the Gold Coast Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Originally from Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, he previously also played with the Kalgoorlie City Football Club in the Goldfields Football League (GFL) and the Subiaco Football Club in the West Australian Football League (WAFL), where he finished runner-up in the 2011 Sandover Medal to Luke Blackwell. Horsley was drafted by Gold Coast with the second pick in the 2012 Rookie draft, and made his debut for the club in round five of the 2012 season. He was delisted by the club at the end of the 2013 season, after 14 games. Horsley returned to the Subiaco Football Club in 2014 to captain the WAFL side for the 2014 season. Horsley had a powerful return to the WAFL finishing third in the Sandover Medal count after leading the Lions to their 12th premiership.
