The Santos Family, or simply Los Santos, are a Colombian and Ecuadorian family.

The Colombian branch originally established from the Santander Department, but residing in Bogotá, which has significantly influenced the country's politics and journalism since the beginning of the 20th century. Its origins date back to the port of Cádiz, Spain.

The family has had two presidents of the country, Eduardo Santos Montejo [1] and Juan Manuel Santos Calderón, and several journalists, among its numerous and influential members, including the heroine of the Independence, Antonia Santos. [2] Additionally, one vice–president, Francisco Santos Calderón. [3] [4] [5]

The Ecuadorian Branch counts with Eduardo Santos Alvite, economist and diplomat, Fernando Santos Alvite [6] , Minister of Energy in two occasions and Esteban Santos Burbano de Lara, former president of Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito and traumatologist. [7]

El Espectador is a newspaper of national circulation within Colombia, founded by Fidel Cano Gutiérrez on March 22, 1887, in Medellín and published since 1915 in Bogotá. It transition from a daily to a weekly edition in 2001, following a financial crisis, and again with a daily released since May 11, 2008, a comeback which had been long rumoured, in tabloid format. Eduardo Santos Montejo was a leading Colombian publisher and politician, active in the Colombian Liberal Party. He purchased the prominent Bogotá newspaper El Tiempo in 1913; El Tiempo was founded by his brother-in-law Alfonso Villegas Restrepo in 1911. Members of the Santos family were the main shareholders of the paper until 2007.

<i>Intermedio</i> (Colombian newspaper)

Intermedio was a Colombian newspaper issued as a replacement for El Tiempo, when it was closed down during the dictatorship of General Gustavo Rojas Pinilla, in the early morning of August 4, 1955. The night before, the newspaper building was occupied by government troops that prevented the publication of a new edition. Intermedio was the first publication of the Casa Editorial El Tiempo, a publishing company founded by former President Eduardo Santos in order to use printing equipment to make different kind of printed products.
