Sapura Group, also known as Sapura, is a Malaysian public limited company based in Kuala Lumpur mainly engaged in oil and gas, manufacturing engineering, property, aviation, defence, and rail construction. [1] Formed in 1975 by Abdul Kadir Shamsuddin, the company was named after his wife, Siti Sapura. [2]

History

Sapura began with six staff members, in a one-room office. They were mainly involved in the telecommunications industry, with the purchase of Uniphone Works from United Motor Works (UMW) (now UMW Holdings), in 1975. In the 1980s, the company acquired Malayan Cable Berhad. [3]

By 1991, Sapura consisted of thirty subsidiaries and two publicly listed company. [4] With its rapid expansion, Sapura became involved in the automotive industry, by establishing Sapura Motor Berhad, in 1994, [4] which was eventually listed on the main board of Bursa Malaysia and renamed Sapura Industrial Berhad.[ citation needed ]

The company's expansion continued with the establishment of new divisions, such as Sapura Energy Berhad, Sapura Resources Berhad, Sapura Aero Sdn Bhd, and Sapura Secured Technologies, which variously specialized in oil and gas, manufacturing, engineering, property, aviation, defence, and rail construction. [2]

Sapura Industrial Berhad

Division that engaged in automotive manufacturing. Established as Sapura Motor Berhad in 1994 then renamed as Sapura Industrial Berhad in 2004 after listed on main board of Bursa Malaysia. The core business of this division includes manufacture of machine engine, transmission, brake component, stabilizer bars, suspension systems and automotive module assemblies. [10] [4] [11]

Sapura Resources Berhad

Sapura Group property division. The establishment of this divisions is to provides the development and rental of building and land such as offices, warehouses, commercial buildings and hangar for aircraft. [12] [13]

Sapura Aero

As a division that involved in aviation sector, Sapura Aero provides private aviation services includes mission planning, aircraft management and charter service. Sapura Aero based in Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport and Senai International Airport. [14] [15] [16]

Sapura Secured Technologies

Sapura Secured Technologies is the Sapura Group defence division that involved more in defence electronic and systems integration. This division provides communication systems, tactical systems, command and control systems, training and simulation systems and surveillance systems. [17] Sapura Secured Technologies also involved in Malaysian Armed Forces Network Centric Operation (NCO) program by providing satelitte and ground communication systems and integrated mission system for the interoperability information sharing. Destini Berhad is a Malaysian company that is involved in heavy industry, defence and oil and gas. This company was formed in 1991 under the name of Satang Jaya Sdn Bhd. At the beginning, this company involved in the business as a supplier of aviation tools and spare parts from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) to Malaysian government especially for Malaysian Armed Forces. The company first time entry into Bursa Malaysia in December 2005 and in September 2011, Satang Jaya Sdn Bhd changed its name to Destini Berhad as a part of company expansions. Destiny Berhad consist of four divisions which is System Enhancement Resources & Technologies (SERT) for land systems, Destini Aviation for aerospace, Destini Armada for marine and Destini Oil Services for oil and gas.
