Sarah Anne Pascale Hulton OBE is a British diplomat who is the High Commissioner of the United Kingdom to Sri Lanka and the Maldives. [1] [2] She officially became the British High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in August 2019 who replaced James Dauris who previously served in the office since 2015. [3] [4] [5] She is also the recipient of Officer of the Order of the British Empire,an award which is awarded for prominent national or regional achievements in the UK.
Hulton served as Head of Democratic People's Republic of Korea Department from 2017 to 2018. [2] She is also currently employed as Deputy Director at the Human Resources Directorate at Foreign and Commonwealth Office from 2018. [6] In April 2019,she was formally appointed as the new British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and the Maldives. [7]
Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga is a Sri Lankan politician who served as the fifth President of Sri Lanka,from 12 November 1994 to 19 November 2005. The country's first and only female president to date and the country's second female prime minister. The 2022 Sri Lankan protests,are ongoing mass protests which began in March 2022 against the government of Sri Lanka. The government has been criticized for mismanaging the Sri Lankan economy,which led to a subsequent economic crisis involving severe inflation,daily blackouts,and a shortage of fuel,domestic gas,and other essential goods. The main demand of the protesters has been the resignation of Gotabaya Rajapaksa and key officials from the Rajapaksa family. Despite the involvement of several opposition parties,most protesters have considered themselves to be apolitical,and some have expressed discontent with the parliamentary opposition. During the protests,protesters have chanted slogans such as "go home Gota" and "go home Rajapaksas". The protests have been mainly caused by the general public,with youths playing a major part by carrying out protests at Galle Face Green.
