Sargis Yosip

Mar Sargis Yousip, is the Assyrian Church of the East's Bishop of Baghdad, Iraq. [1] Born in 1950 in Baghdad, he was consecrated a bishop at the age of 17 by Mar Yosip Khnanisho on 2 March 1967 at the Mar Zaia Cathedral in Baghdad. In 2002 the bishop left for the United States and has since been unable to return to his diocese. He currently resides in exile at Modesto, California.

Mar Dinkha IV, born Dinkha Khanania, was the Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East. He was born in the village of Darbandokeh (Derbendoki), Iraq and led the Church in exile in Chicago for most of his life.

The Ancient Church of the East, officially the Ancient Holy Apostolic Catholic Church of the East, is an Eastern Christian denomination, of the East Syriac Rite. Mar Gewargis III is the current Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East. On 18 September 2015, the Holy Synod of the Assyrian Church of the East elected Mar Gewargis Sliwa to succeed the late Mar Dinkha IV as the head of the Church. On 27 September 2015, he was formally consecrated and enthroned as Catholicos-Patriarch.

The Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Urmia or Orthodox Mission in Urmia was a Russian Orthodox mission to the ethnic Assyrians who lived in the border regions with Russia, mainly in the Persian Azerbaijan province, and who converted from the Church of the East and Chaldean Catholic Church in 1898. Formally, the mission covers only twenty years (1898–1918), but Russian interest in the region prior to its establishment lasted almost the entire 19th century.
