"Satch Boogie" is the fifth track from the album Surfing with the Alien , and is along with "Surfing with the Alien" one of Satriani's most famous pieces. The composition was considered the 55th greatest guitar solo ever by Guitar World Magazine readers. [1] The tap-on bridge played only on the fifth-string is an example of pitch axis theory. [2] Deep Purple performed the song regularly during Satriani's tenure in the band.

It also appears in the popular video game, Guitar Hero World Tour [4] and in the game Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades ; in these games, it is considered the most difficult song for the guitar instrument, especially at the Solo F section. It is also available as downloadable content for the Rock Band series. It is also available on Rocksmith 2014 as the hardest song to learn on lead guitar.

Pick tapping is a legato playing technique for the guitar, in which the edge of the pick is used to sharply trill notes on the instrument's fretboard at fast speeds. Whilst trilling can be performed with the fingers of either the fretting or picking hand, using the pick enables faster speeds by means of 'vibrating' the wrist. Geoff Tyson played guitar for T-Ride, whose debut album shared the same title. He was a student of Joe Satriani, and one of two students Satriani has said 'Graduated' from his lessons. Songs from the album were used in various motion pictures and television shows including Luxury Cruiser in the soundtrack of 1992's Encino Man, Zombies from Hell in the movie Captain Ron and Bone Down in an episode of Baywatch, Forbidden Paradise-part 2.
