"Barbie Girl" is a song by Danish-Norwegian dance-pop group Aqua. It was released in April 1997 by Universal and MCA as the third single from the group's debut studio album, Aquarium (1997). The song was written by band members Søren Rasted, Claus Norreen, René Dif, and Lene Nystrøm, and was produced by the former two alongside Johnny Jam and Delgado. It was written after Rasted saw an exhibit on kitsch culture in Denmark that featured Barbie dolls. The accompanying music video was directed by Danish directors Peder Pedersen and Peter Stenbæk.
Stefan Kendal Gordy, better known by his stage name Redfoo, is an American rapper, dancer, record producer, DJ, and singer. He is known as part of the EDM-hip house duo LMFAO, which he formed with his half-nephew Sky Blu in 2006. The duo are best known for their 2011 singles "Party Rock Anthem" and "Sexy and I Know It," both of which peaked atop the Billboard Hot 100. They released two studio albums: Party Rock (2009) and Sorry for Party Rocking (2011) through will.i.am Music Group, an imprint of Interscope Records until their disbandment in 2012. Redfoo released his debut solo album, Party Rock Mansion in 2016.

The Portuguese broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP) organised the national final Festival da Canção 2012 in order to select the Portuguese entry for the 2012 contest in Baku, Azerbaijan. The competition took place on 10 March 2012 where "Vida minha" performed by Filipa Sousa emerged as the winner after achieving the highest score following the combination of votes from twenty regional juries and a public televote.
