Scott Marr is an American lacrosse coach. He is currently the head coach for the University at Albany Great Danes men's lacrosse team. He previously served as the offensive coordinator at the University of Maryland and University of Delaware. Marr led the Great Danes to the school's first ever NCAA tournament appearance in 2003. In 2007, Albany won its first NCAA tournament game, and the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association named Marr the Coach of the Year.

College career

Marr was raised in Yorktown, New York, where he earned high school All-America honors in lacrosse. He attended college at Johns Hopkins University, from which he received a B.S. in behavioral science in 1991. Marr played lacrosse for the Blue Jays, and his career highlights included winning the NCAA championship in 1987 and advancing to the final in 1989. [1]

Coaching career

Assistant coach

Marr's first coaching experience was as an offensive coordinator at the University of Delaware from 1992 to 1994. The Blue Hens secured the North Atlantic Conference championship each year of his tenure there. Marr then served as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator under Dick Edell at the University of Maryland from 1995 to 2000. In that period, the Terrapins advanced to the NCAA tournament final in 1995, 1997, and 1998. [1] The NCAA suspended Marr for two games for "unsportsmanlike behavior" directed at officiating staff during the 1998 championship game against Princeton. [2] [3]

University at Albany

Marr took over as head coach at the University at Albany for the 2001 season. In 2002, his Great Danes captured the America East Conference regular season championship, and Marr was voted as the conference Coach of the Year. The following year, Albany made its first appearance in the NCAA tournament. [1] The Great Danes won the America East Conference tournament each season from 2003 to 2005, and with it earned an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament. After falling in the 2006 America East championship game, Albany returned to claim the conference title and an NCAA appearance in 2007. Fifth-seeded Albany then defeated Loyola in the first round for the first NCAA tournament win in school history. The Great Danes fell to Cornell in overtime in the NCAA quarterfinals, and Albany finished the season with a 15–3 record, the best in school history. [4] Marr was named the 2007 USILA Coach of the Year. [1]

Marr expressed an interest in the Maryland head coaching job after Dave Cottle was forced out in 2010: "I've always said it's a school that I would seriously consider if it did open up," but added, "I'm really excited about being at Albany ... I have no reason to move." [5] The position, however, ultimately went to former Harvard head coach John Tillman. [6]

International competition

In 2006, Marr served as an assistant coach for the United States national team, which secured the silver at the World Lacrosse Championship. [1] Marr served as the assistant coach for the Iroquois nationals at the 2018 World Lacrosse Championship. [7] [8]

Personal life

Marr has two children, Kyle and Jordyn, who played lacrosse at Shenendehowa High School. [9] He also has a younger daughter Keeley who will be a senior at Shen this year. As of 2018 Kyle played college lacrosse for Johns Hopkins. [10] Daughter Jordyn was a Captain for the women’s lacrosse team at UAlbany in 2019 and was an America East Scholar athlete. Scott's brother, Dave Marr, also played lacrosse at Johns Hopkins University.

The Loyola Greyhounds men's lacrosse team represents Loyola University Maryland in NCAA Division I lacrosse. Its home matches are played at the Ridley Athletic Complex. Charley Toomey has served as its head coach since 2006. It became a member of the Patriot League along with the university's other intercollegiate athletic programs on July 1, 2013. The Greyhounds were a member of the ECAC Lacrosse League from 2005 to 2013. It became the first member of the conference to win a national championship in 2012. It was also the first national title in the university's Division I history.

Brett Queener is an American lacrosse player. He is currently a member of the Chrome Lacrosse Club in the Premier Lacrosse League and was selected by the Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League. He never played for them. Queener is best known as a field lacrosse goaltender, however he plays an offensive position in indoor box lacrosse. Queener is currently the head coach of the Community School of Naples varsity lacrosse team.

The Florida Gators women's lacrosse team represents the University of Florida in the sport of college lacrosse. The Gators compete in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) and are single-sport members of the American Athletic Conference, which they joined in 2018 after four seasons in the Big East Conference. Before joining Big East women's lacrosse, the Gators were members of the American Lacrosse Conference (ALC), which folded after the 2014 season due to aftereffects of conference realignment. Dave Cottle is a retired American lacrosse coach. He was a consultant for Marquette University, when they added men's and women's varsity lacrosse on December 16, 2010. He was previously the head coach for the Maryland Terrapins men's lacrosse team at the University of Maryland from 2002 to 2010. Cottle also coached the Loyola College men's lacrosse team from 1983 to 2001.

The Johns Hopkins–Maryland lacrosse rivalry is an intercollegiate rivalry between the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays, which represent Johns Hopkins University, and the Maryland Terrapins, which represent the University of Maryland. The most prominent event has been the men's lacrosse series, which is widely regarded as one of the greatest rivalries in the sport. More than 115 contests in the series have been played since the schools first met in 1895. The competition is intensified by each program's status as a traditional lacrosse powerhouse. As such, the game has often held national championship implications, and twice the teams played to represent the United States in the Olympics.

Richard Irving Edell was an American lacrosse coach. He served as the head coach for the University of Maryland, United States Military Academy, and University of Baltimore's men's lacrosse teams. Edell was inducted into the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2004, at which time he held the second-most NCAA tournament appearances of any head coach.

Donald Zimmerman is a television analyst and former American college lacrosse coach. He became a color analyst for ESPN in May 2016 and does both high school and college lacrosse games. Prior to becoming an analyst, he served as the head coach for the UMBC Retrievers at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County for 24 years. Between 1984 and 1987, Zimmerman coached Johns Hopkins to three national championships. Zimmerman was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2017.

The Virginia Cavaliers men's lacrosse team represents the University of Virginia in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I men's lacrosse. The Cavaliers compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and plays home games at Klöckner Stadium, or occasionally Turf Field or Scott Stadium, in Charlottesville, Virginia. The team is coached by Lars Tiffany, who led the team to back-to-back national titles in the 2019 NCAA Lacrosse Championship and 2021 NCAA Lacrosse Championship.

The NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship tournament determines the annual top men's college lacrosse team in the NCAA Division I. Kevin Corrigan is a national champion American lacrosse coach. Serving as the head coach for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish men's lacrosse team since 1988, he is the longest active tenured coach in men's lacrosse at the Division I level.

Kathryn Rowan Thomson is an American professional lacrosse player who currently coaches the Albany Great Danes women's lacrosse, a position she has held since June 2018. She played college lacrosse at Syracuse.
