The Everett Silvertips are an American major junior ice hockey team in the U.S. Division of the Western Conference of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The team is based in Everett, Washington, and joined the WHL as an expansion team for the 2003–04 season. The team name comes from the silvertip bear. The team plays at Angel of the Winds Arena, a $71.5 million multipurpose complex built in 2003 that seats 8,300 for hockey. The team's mascot is Lincoln, a silvertip bear, named after the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln stationed at the time at Naval Station Everett. The Silvertips have developed rivalries with the Seattle Thunderbirds and Portland Winterhawks.

Following his playing career, Nelson worked in investment management and broadcasting in the Seattle area. He did local cable telecasts and was the color commentator on radio for Husky football games for 17 years, through the 2009 season. Nelson was the director of the Boeing Classic golf tournament on the Champions Tour for its first five years, and was named president and CEO of the Washington Athletic Club in January 2012.

Don Edwin Coleman was an American college football player. He played for Michigan State Spartans, where he was a unanimous All-American in 1951, the first African-American All-American football player at Michigan State. He was also the first Michigan State player to have his jersey number retired by the school. In 1968, he also became the first African-American to serve on the coaching staff at Michigan State. Coleman was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1975 as a player.
