Sebastian Ioan Burduja (born 18 June 1985) is a Romanian politician. He is currently the Minister of Energy in the Government of Romania,after fulfilling the role of Minister of Research,Innovation,and Digitalization previously (2022-2023). In December 2020,he was elected deputy of the National Party in the 42nd constituency of Bucharest. He was until August 2019 the president and founder of the Youth Civic Action Platform (PACT) party,launched in January 2016. [1] He founded and led the League of Romanian Students Abroad (LSRS) and the CAESAR Foundation (Center for Access to the Expertise of Romanian Students and Graduates).
He did internships at the United Nations (UN) –Economic Commission for Europe,in Geneva,at the consulting firm McKinsey &Company,in Bucharest,as well as at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs –NATO Division,at National Endowment for Democracy (Washington DC) and the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (Stanford CA),where he worked as an assistant to the renowned political analyst,Prof. Dr. Larry Diamond. At Harvard,he collaborated with,among others,professors Steve Jardingand David Gergen. [2]
Between 2011 and 2012,he was a consultant for Dalberg Global Development Advisors,a strategic advisory company that develops country strategies and high-level development projects for emerging countries,in partnership with organizations such as the G20,the World Bank,the United Nations,etc.
From 2012 to 2015,he worked as a development specialist at the World Bank,headquartered in Washington D.C.,coordinating projects for the Europe and Central Asia region,including Romania. [3] He was the main author or co-author of 22 technical reports for Romania. He gave a presentation at the World Bank on "Reshaping the Economic Geography of Romania". [4]
In April 2016,he was elected president of the Youth Civic Action Platform (PACT) party. PACT has been noted for several new projects,including:The Citizens' Pact,the candidez.eu platform for supporting all independent candidates and contesting candidates in local elections of candidates suspected of defrauding lists of supporters. [5] [6] The party nominated 100 candidates in the June 2016 local elections. [7]
He is one of the main promoters of the August 10 #diasporaacasa protest. In June 2018,he registers with his mobile phone at Otopeni airport and tells his story of returning home after the years spent in the United States of America,with the call to the diaspora to come to Bucharest on August 10. The video went viral,reaching over 1.5 million Romanians. [8] Moise Guran credits him with the merit of spreading the idea of a diaspora protest in Romania. [9]
On the occasion of the Centenary of the Great Union,he inaugurates in Alba Iulia the monument of the Time Capsule "Romania 2118",which brings together 200 messages for the future from personalities of the present:located in the ditches of Alba Carolina Citadel,on the side of the Union Bridge,near the two Cathedrals and the Union Monument. [10] Among the authors of the letters that will be opened on December 1,2118,are:Alexandru Tomescu,Moise Guran,Cristi Danileț,Cristian Pârvulescu,Petre Crăciun,Constantin Necula,Nicu Alifantis,Nicu Covaci,Mihai Covaliu,Marcel Iureș,Lucian Mîndruță,Lazăr Comănescu,Laura Badea,Ivan Patzaichin,Ion Caramitru,Ioan-Aurel Pop,Eugen Doga,Felicia Filip,Elisabeta Lipă,etc.
In January 2019,as a result of his civic and political activity,Sebastian Burduja is selected by the German Friedrich Naumann Foundation as "one of the six freedom fighters in Eastern Europe,within the Think Freedom project,and his story is translated into a short documentary. [11]
In August 2019,within the National Council of the National Liberal Party,he was elected PNL Vice President at the national level. [12] He is also appointed interim president of the PNL Sector 1 branch. [13] He will hold this political position until February 2020,when he will be elected President with full rights.
He was selected by Forbes magazine in the first "30 under 30" promotion in Romania. [14] [15]
In January 2017 he becomes Managing Partner within the company RISE Consortium and remains in that position until December 2019.
In December 2019,he was appointed Secretary of State in the Ministry of Public Finance.
In 2020,he published the book Plan for Romania:7 intellectual revolutions for a country we want to stay in,at Litera publishing house.
With the general elections organized in December 2020,he becomes a deputy of Bucharest,a position he currently holds.
In Romania,he graduated from the Mihai Viteazul National College in Bucharest. He is a graduate and head of promotion of School No. 11 Ion Heliade Rădulescu. [16]
In 2016,he became a doctoral student at the Academy of Economic Studies and,in 2019,he obtained the title of Doctor of Economics and International Affairs with the qualification "Summa Cum Laude".
He also graduated from Stanford University (BA) and Harvard University (MBA and MPP). [17]
He has published articles in specialized journals in the United States,focusing in particular on the topic of democracy in Romania and the need to strengthen it. In 2016 he published at Editura Curtea Veche the book "Between hope and disappointment. Democracy and anti-corruption in Post-Communist Romania",which presents "in its own vision the post-communist course of Romanian democracy,having as reference point the aspect that represented –in my personal opinion –the main obstacle to this evolution:political corruption.” [18] based on the Stanford University diploma paper,graded A+. [19] The preface of the book is signed by Larry Diamond,and the afterword by Vladimir Tismăneanu.
He is Honorary President and founder of the League of Romanian Students Abroad (LSRS) and a founding member of the CAESAR Foundation (Center for Access to the Expertise of Romanian Students and Graduates). He is a member of the Washington D.C. branch. of Global Shapers,a community developed by the World Economic Forum for young people with great potential to be leaders in society. In 2017,he was selected by the JCI organization among the 10 most valuable young people in Romania. [20] In 2018,he was selected as a Millennium Fellow by the Atlantic Council. In 2019,he was selected by the German Marshall Fund as the Marshall Memorial Fellow,a program dedicated to high-potential leaders in Europe and the United States,with Emmanuel Macron and Federica Mogherini. Alexandru Averescu was a Romanian marshal,diplomat and populist politician. A Romanian Armed Forces Commander during World War I,he served as Prime Minister of three separate cabinets. He first rose to prominence during the peasants' revolt of 1907,which he helped repress with violence. Credited with engineering the defense of Moldavia in the 1916–1917 Campaign,he built on his popularity to found and lead the successful People's Party,which he brought to power in 1920–1921,with backing from King Ferdinand I and the National Liberal Party (PNL),and with the notable participation of Constantin Argetoianu and Take Ionescu.
Take or Tache Ionescu was a Romanian centrist politician,journalist,lawyer and diplomat,who also enjoyed reputation as a short story author. Starting his political career as a radical member of the National Liberal Party (PNL),he joined the Conservative Party in 1891,and became noted as a social conservative expressing support for several progressive and nationalist tenets. Ionescu is generally viewed as embodying the rise of middle-class politics inside the early 20th century Kingdom of Romania,and,throughout the period,promoted a project of Balkan alliances while calling for measures to incorporate the Romanian-inhabited Austro-Hungarian regions of Transylvania,Banat and Bukovina. Representing his own faction inside the Conservative Party,he clashed with the group's leadership in 1907–1908,and consequently created and led his own Conservative-Democratic Party.
The National Liberal Party is a social-conservative political party in Romania. Re-founded in mid January 1990,shortly after the Revolution of 1989 which culminated in the fall of communism in Romania,it claims the legacy of the major political party of the same name,active between 1875 and 1947 in the Kingdom of Romania. Based on this historical legacy,it often presents itself as the first formally constituted political party in the country and the oldest of its kind from the family of European liberal parties as well.

Ion I. Nistor was a Romanian historian and politician. He was a titular member of the Romanian Academy from 1915 and a professor at the universities of Cernăuți and Bucharest,while also serving as Minister of State for Bukovina,Minister of Public Works,Minister of Labor,and Minister of Religious Affairs and the Arts with a number of governments from 1918 to 1940.
Romanian architecture is very diverse,including medieval,pre-World War I,interwar,postwar,and contemporary 21st century architecture. In Romania,there are also regional differences with regard to architectural styles. Architecture,as the rest of the arts,was highly influenced by the socio-economic context and by the historical situation. For example,during the reign of King Carol I (1866–1914),Romania was in a continuous state of reorganization and modernization. In consequence,most of the architecture was designed by architects trained in Western European academies,particularly the École des Beaux-Arts,and a big part of the downtowns of the Romanian Old Kingdom were built during this period.
The Democratic Liberal Party was a liberal-conservative political party in Romania. The party was formed on 15 December 2007,when the Democratic Party (PD) merged with the Liberal Democratic Party (PLD). On 17 November 2014 the PDL officially merged into the National Liberal Party (PNL),ceasing to exist. The PDL was associated with Traian Băsescu,who was previously leader of the PD and President of Romania from 2004 to 2014.
Radu-Anton Câmpeanu was a Romanian politician who was also jurist and economist by profession,after graduating from the University of Bucharest (UB) in November 1945,specializing in constitutional right. During the interwar period and up until 1945,he was the leader of the National Liberal students' association at nationwide level.

The People's Party,originally People's League,was an eclectic,essentially populist,mass movement in Romania. Created by World War I hero Alexandru Averescu,it identified itself with the new politics of "Greater Romania" period,and existed for almost as long as Greater Romania did. The PP broke with the antiquated two-party system,creating a wide coalition of lobbies,and advertised itself as the new challenge to the National Liberal Party (PNL). The group was held together by Averescu's charisma,and was popularly known as partidul averescan,"the Averescan party".
The Fourth Ponta Cabinet was the government of Romania from 17 December 2014 to 17 November 2015. The Cabinet was supported by the Social Democratic Party (PSD),the National Union for the Progress of Romania (UNPR) and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE),the alliance forged by Călin Popescu-Tăriceanu's Liberal Reformist Party (PLR) and Daniel Constantin's Conservative Party (PC). Fourteen of the ministerial portfolios were held by PSD members,three by ALDE,two by UNPR and two by independent members.
Constantin Gheorghe Banu was a Romanian writer,journalist and politician,who served as Arts and Religious Affairs Minister in 1922–1923. He is remembered in literary history as the founder of Flacăra review,which he published in two editions,alongside Petre Locusteanu,Ion Pillat,Adrian Maniu,and,later,VintilăRussu-Șirianu. A best-selling magazine for its time,it functioned as a launching pad for several writers of the Romanian Symbolist movement.
The Save Romania Union is a liberal political party active in Romania,currently the third largest party in the Parliament of Romania with 41 deputies and 20 senators,and a fifth at local level nationwide,after the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR/RMDSZ) and the People's Movement Party (PMP),two smaller centre-right political parties in the country.
Asociația Clubul Sportiv Petrolul 52,commonly referred to as FC Petrolul Ploiești,Petrolul Ploiești or simply Petrolul,is a Romanian professional football club based in Ploiești,Prahova County,that competes in the Liga I.
Aristide or Aristid Blank,also spelled Blanc or Blanck,was a Romanian financier,economist,arts patron and playwright. His father,Mauriciu Blank,an assimilated and naturalized Romanian Jew,was manager of the Marmorosch Blank Bank (BMB),a major financial enterprise. Aristide took up jobs within the same company,and,after seeing action in the Second Balkan War and World War I,began expanding its investments,branching out into maritime transport and founding CFRNA/CIDNA airlines. This period witnessed his attempt at setting up a press empire around the twin dailies Adevărul and Dimineața,and his brief engagement with Epoca.

Asociația SportivăPhoenix Ulmu,commonly known as Phoenix Ulmu,or simply as Ulmu,is a Romanian football club based in Ulmu,Călărași County. Founded in 2005 as Phoenix Ulmu,the club situated on the banks of Mostiștea Lake reached the third tier on four occasions,a 2nd place being their best ranking.
USR PLUS was a Romanian progressive,liberal,and centrist political alliance active between 2019 and 2021. Established on 2 February 2019 solely as an electoral alliance between the political parties Save Romania Union (USR) and the Freedom,Unity and Solidarity Party (PLUS) it was initially called 2020 USR-PLUS Alliance. The alliance was formed to participate together in the May 2019 European Parliament election in Romania.
Presidential elections will be held in Romania on 15 September 2024,with a possible second round to be held on 29 September if no candidate receives over 50% of the vote. They will be the ninth presidential elections held in post-1989 Romania. As the Romanian Constitution allows a maximum of two presidential terms,incumbent President of Romania Klaus Iohannis,first elected in 2014 and then re-elected in 2019,is not eligible for re-election. His second term will normally end in December 2024.
Teodor Boldur-Lățescu was a Romanian politician,essayist and newspaper publisher,best known for his violent advocacy of Moldavian separatism. Born into an ancient clan of Moldavian boyars,and claiming Montenegrin Balšićdescent on his maternal side,he was unable to maintain his economic status,and eventually had to work as a lawyer. In his late teens,he debuted in politics as an adherent of the National Party,which sought to establish political ties between the Romanian populations of Moldavia and Wallachia. Boldur-Lățescu was disenchanted with the single Romanian state formed in 1859,emerging as an outspoken adversary of its Domnitor,Alexandru Ioan Cuza. His embrace of political separatism took a radical and controversial form,which included stereotyping Wallachians as Gypsies and circulating a historical forgery,the Chronicle of Huru. During the interregnum which followed Cuza's toppling by the "monstrous coalition" in February 1866,he joined a separatist caucus in Iași,convincing Nicolae Rosetti-Rosnovanu to claim the Moldavian throne.
