Seymours House is a heritage-listed residence and now offices at 24 Bosworth Street, Richmond, City of Hawkesbury, New South Wales, Australia. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.^[1]

Richmond is a town in New South Wales, in the local government area of the City of Hawkesbury. It is located at a latitude of 33° 35' 54" South and a longitude of 150°45' 04" east, 19 metres above sea level on the alluvial Hawkesbury River flats, at the foot of the Blue Mountains. It is about 65 km by road from Sydney.

The City of Hawkesbury is a local government area of New South Wales, Australia, part of which is at the fringe of the Sydney metropolitan area, about 50 kilometres (31 mi) north-west of the Sydney central business district. Hawkesbury City is named after the Hawkesbury River.

New South Wales is a state on the east coast of Australia. It borders Queensland to the north, Victoria to the south, and South Australia to the west. Its coast borders the Tasman Sea to the east. The Australian Capital Territory is an enclave within the state. New South Wales' state capital is Sydney, which is also Australia's most populous city. In December 2018, the population of New South Wales was over 8 million, making it Australia's most populous state. Just under two-thirds of the state's population, 5.1 million, live in the Greater Sydney area. Inhabitants of New South Wales are referred to as New South Welshmen.

History

Seymours House was built c. 1840s. It is named after a family who had owned the property. Prior to the 1970s, the house was converted into flats and stripped of many original details, but was subsequently significantly restored. It has now been converted to commercial offices.^[2]

Description

Seymours House is a late Georgian stuccoed brick townhouse, five bays wide, and originally covered by a bellcast iron verandah roof. It features shuttered twelve paned windows and an original central front door with elegant sidelights and fanlight. A slate hipped roof and service wing extend at right angles to the rear.^[3]

Heritage listing

Seymours House was listed on the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.^[1]

The New South Wales State Heritage Register, also known as NSW State Heritage Register, is a heritage list of places in the state of New South Wales, Australia, that are protected by New South Wales legislation, generally covered by the Heritage Act, 1977 (NSW) and its 2010 amendments.
