Shirley Barrett was an Australian film director, screenwriter, and novelist. Initially Barrett was a singer in the band Fruit Pastilles from 1981-83. After ending her time in the band, Barrett went on to write for films. Her first film Love Serenade won the Caméra d'Or at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival. She wrote and directed two other feature films Walk the Talk (2000) and South Solitary (2010). Barrett's script for South Solitary was awarded multiple prizes, including the Queensland Premier's Prize and the West Australian Premier's Prize. Her first novel Rush Oh! (2016) was shortlisted for the 2016 Indie Awards for Debut Fiction and the 2016 Nita May Dobbie Award, and long-listed for the 2016 Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction. Her second novel The Bus on Thursday was released in 2018.
Shell Presents was an early attempt at Australian television drama, being an umbrella title for several different productions. It debuted on 4 April 1959, and aired on ATN-7 and GTV-9, who split production of plays for the series between them. It was an anthology series, each program being a self-contained play for television. The series won a Logie award in 1960 for TV Highlight of 1959. As the title suggests, it was sponsored by Shell. It was described as "a very big deal for the station: major institutional sponsorship from international companies for locally produced drama." It would be followed by The General Motors Hour.
Stormy Petrel is an early Australian television drama. A period drama, the 12-episode serial told the story of William Bligh and aired in 1960 on ABC. It was the first live TV serial from the ABC.
Barley Charlie was an Australian television sitcom which aired in 1964. It was the second television sitcom produced in Australia; being preceded by the 1957-1959 series Take That, although that Crawford Productions sitcom had only aired in Melbourne. Some of the creatives went on to be involved in the serial drama Undercurrent (1965).
The Astor Show was an Australian television series which aired in 1958 on Melbourne station GTV-9. In the series, the cast danced to and mimed hit recordings. The series ended with the 31 August 1958 broadcast. The timeslot of the series was then occupied for several weeks by a series of specials starring Shirley Abicair, and later by an American drama series.

Curtain Call is an Australian variety series which aired in Sydney on ATN-7 during 1960, which featured comedy and music. It was followed-up in 1961 with the popular Revue '61.
Talking Point is an Australian television series which aired 1960 to 1962 on Sydney station ATN-7. It was a discussion series featuring a panel of four. Angus Maude was the original host, later it was hosted by Joe Gullett. In one episode, the panel criticised the banning of the book Lady Chatterley's Lover, in another episode there was a debate on the future of the United Nations, while another episode featured a discussion of the space race.
Adventure Unlimited is a 1965 Australian anthology TV series. It was produced by Lee Robinson and associate produced by Joy Cavill. The directors included Ken Hannam. It was made by Waratah Film Productions a short lived company that came out of an unsuccessful attempt to gain a third commercial television licence.
William (Bill) Lawrence Lovelock was born in Sydney on 19 June 1922 and died in the North Sydney suburb of Ryde City on 8 August 2003. He was a songwriter and broadcaster with successes in Australia, Great Britain and the United States.
