Sibusiso Mash Mashiloane is a South African jazz musician. He is a pianist, composer, educator, arranger and award winner [1] who studied jazz at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. [2] [3]

Biography

Mashiloane was born in Bethal. He started playing music in church and went on to study music professionally. He has a Masters in Jazz Performance and graduated from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. His albums include Amanz' Olwandle (2016) and Rotha – A Tribute to Mama (2017). Amanz' Olwandle won two Mzantsi Jazz Awards for Best Jazz album. Rotha was nominated for the Afrima Awards for best Best African Jazz. He lectures at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and Durban Music School. His intent is to teach and organize live music performances with his students, focusing on South African composers. [4] [5] [6] [7] [8]

Bhekumuzi Luthuli was a well known South African Maskandi musician. Born in Kwa-Maphumulo, near the Kwa-Zulu Natal town of Stanger, he started making traditional Zulu music on a home-made guitar. In the early 1980s, he joined the Mbaqanga band Oshimi, based in Durban. After two albums with the group, Luthuli embarked on a successful solo career. His second and third solo releases, Unembeza and Wongikhonzela Enhliziyweni, won OKTV awards, and were followed by another 17 albums. Impempe attained platinum status, selling over 50,000 copies.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2022 KwaZulu-Natal floods</span> April 2022 flooding in South Africa

In April 2022, days of heavy rain across KwaZulu-Natal in southeastern South Africa led to deadly floods. Particularly hard-hit were areas in and around Durban. At least 435 people died across the province, with an unknown number of people missing as of April 22. Several thousand homes were damaged or destroyed. Critical infrastructure, including major roads, transportation, communication, and electrical systems, were also impacted by the flooding, and this damage greatly hampered recovery and relief efforts. It is one of the deadliest disasters in the country in the 21st century, and the deadliest storm since the 1987 floods. The floods have caused more than R17 billion in infrastructure damage. A national state of disaster was declared.

Palesa Nomthandazo Phumelele Modiga, professionally known as Zoë Modiga is a South African singer and songwriter. Modiga first gained recognition as contestant on The Voice South Africa 2016.
