Skylar Laine (born Skylar Laine Harden; [3] February 1, 1994) is an American singer from Brandon, Mississippi. [4] She placed fifth on the eleventh season of American Idol . [5]

Early life

Laine was born on February 1, 1994 in Jackson, Mississippi, to Ed and Mary Harden. [6] She was raised in nearby Brandon, and graduated from Brandon High School a year early. [7] Her musical influences are Miranda Lambert, Waylon Jennings and George Jones. [7] Laine also worked at her family's business in Mississippi. She has also lived in Nashville, Tennessee. [8]

Overview

Laine auditioned in Houston, Texas. In the semi-finals she performed "Stay with Me" by Faces. She was one of the top five female vote getters and advanced to the top 13. She is the second finalist from Mississippi, the other being Jasmine Murray from American Idol season 8. [7] After the competition, she moved to Nashville, Tennessee. [9]

Post Idol

She took part in the American Idols LIVE! Tour 2012, which began July 6, 2012 and ran till September 21, 2012. [10]

It was announced on November 17, 2012 that Laine had signed with 19 Entertainment's management and had moved to Nashville, Tennessee to work on her debut album. She has worked with songwriters such as Nathan Chapman, Brett James, Hillary Lindsey, Luke Laird, and Chris Tompkins. She also debuted an original song called "Settle Down," written by herself, Chris DeStefano and Anne Preven. [2] In January 2013, she left 19 Entertainment's management because they were unable to find a record label for her, but she was still working on her album. [11]

On July 10, 2015, her debut album, Dirt Covered Lace, was released.[ citation needed ]

The eleventh season of American Idol premiered on Fox on January 18, 2012, and concluded on May 23, 2012. Ryan Seacrest returned as host, while Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler all returned as judges. American Idol Season 11 Highlights is a compilation extended play by Jessica Sanchez based on some of her American Idol performances. The EP was released exclusively through Walmart and consists of a few studio recordings made by Sanchez during season 11 of American Idol. It includes a duet with Joshua Ledet, her potential coronation song, "Change Nothing" and performances that were well received by the judges on the show. Similar EPs were also released through Walmart by fellow contestants from the Top 5, Phillip Phillips, Joshua Ledet, Hollie Cavanagh and Skylar Laine. As of August 2012, it has sold 15,000 copies.
