Freestyle skiing is a skiing discipline comprising aerials, moguls, cross, half-pipe, slopestyle and big air as part of the Winter Olympics. It can consist of a skier performing aerial flips and spins and can include skiers sliding rails and boxes on their skis. Known as "hot-dogging" in the early 1970s, it is also commonly referred to as freeskiing, jibbing, as well as many other names, around the world.
The 1992 Winter Olympics, officially known as the XVI Olympic Winter Games and commonly known as Albertville '92, was a winter multi-sport event held from 8 to 23 February 1992 in and around Albertville, France. Albertville won the bid to host the Winter Olympics in 1986, beating Sofia, Falun, Lillehammer, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Anchorage, and Berchtesgaden. The 1992 Winter Olympics were the last winter games held in the same year as the Summer Olympics. The Games were the fifth Olympic Games held in France and the country's third Winter Olympics, after the 1924 Winter Games in Chamonix and the 1968 Winter Games in Grenoble. This games was the first of two consecutive Olympic games to be held in Western Europe, preceding the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain.

The freestyle skiing competition of the 1994 Winter Olympics was held at Kanthaugen Freestyle Arena. There were four events, taking place between 15 and 24 February 1994. The freestyle program was expanded at this Olympics, with aerials, previously a demonstration event, added as a full medal event.

The FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup is an annual freestyle skiing competition arranged by the International Ski Federation since 1980. Currently six disciplines are included in world cup: moguls, aerials, ski cross, halfpipe, slopestyle and big air. In the 1980s and 1990s there were also ski ballet and combined, which no longer exist.
Emily Cook is an American freestyle skier who has competed since 1995. Her first World Cup victory was in an aerials event in Russia in 2008. She has eight career World Cup podiums, over 30 World Cup top tens and five National Championships wins.
Bree Munro is an Australian aerial freestyle skier. She went to high school and university in Victoria and was involved in competitive gymnastics prior to taking up skiing in 2002. Her first appearance on the Australian national team was at Mt Buller hosted 2002 World Cup. She was in the running but did not make the Australian 2006 Winter Olympics team. An injury while training for the 2006/2007 World Cup season resulted in not competing for nearly two years. She competed at the 2010 Winter Olympics in freestyle skiing in the aerials event, where she finished 18th and did not qualify for the finals.
Ski ballet is a form of ballet performed on skis. It is very similar to figure skating, combining spins, jumps, and flips in a two-minute routine choreographed to music. It was part of the professional freestyle skiing tours of the 1970s and 1980s and then an official FIS and Olympic discipline until the year 2000. Ski ballet became known as Acroski in the 1990s in an effort to legitimize its place among the competitive ski community, especially to the FIS. It is no longer a part of competitive freestyle skiing.
Laura Peel is an Australian freestyle skier. She was two time world champion and two time World Cup winner, at the women's aerials discipline. She competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, in women's aerials, at the 2018 Winter Olympics, in women's aerials, where she placed fifth, and at the 2022 Winter Olympics, in Women's aerials, where she placed fifth.
Jilly Wallace is a British former freestyle skier, who won 29 FIS World Cup medals, which was the most for any British skier or snowboarder until 2020. She competed at the 1992 and 1994 Winter Olympics. She was World Champion in Laser-Run in 2019 and 2022 at the UIPM World Championships.
Kong Fanyu is a Chinese freestyle skier who competes internationally. She participated at the 2018 Winter Olympics and won a bronze medal in aerials, and at the 2022 Winter Olympics, in Women's aerials.
Elfie Simchen is a German freestyle skier. She was born in Ludwigsburg. She competed at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, in women's aerials. She won a silver medal in women's aerials at the FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships 1991.
Maria Quintana is an American freestyle skier and world champion.
Anna Rose Fraser-Sproule is a Canadian freestyle skier.
Robin Wallace is a British former freestyle skier and coach of the Great Britain freestyle skiing team. He finished in the top 10 in over 20 FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup events, and competed in a demonstration event at the 1988 Winter Olympics.
