Soorya Manasam is a 1992 Indian Malayalam-language drama film directed by Viji Thampi and written by Sab John. The film stars Mammootty, along with Raghuvaran, Vinodini, Sowcar Janaki, Vaishnavi, Riza Bava and Jagathy Sreekumar playing supporting roles. The film revolves around Putturumees, a mentally disabled man and his mother Mariya who face several social issues in their village. [1]

Putturumees is a mentally disabled man who lives in a small village with his mother Mariya. The villagers face several issues due to his condition and compel his mother to take him to a new place.

The music for the film was composed by M. M. Keeravani and the lyrics were written by Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri. [4] The background music was composed by S. P. Venkatesh.[ citation needed ]

Malini Mannath of The Indian Express wrote, "There is no wrong step in the characterisation of the simpleton. Tight screenplay and slick editing enhance the narrative value." [5]

It tells the story of Varunni (Mammootty), the uncultured and drunkard hunter, who arrives in the village to kill a man-eating leopard. The film won two Kerala State Film Awards. The leopard, used in a number of scenes in the film, was lent by animal trainer Govindarajan Naidu. Sasi had said that the climax fight scene with the leopard was done by Mammootty himself without dupes.
