Sous le signe du vaudou (English: 'Under the Sign of Vodoo') is a Beninese film directed by Pascal Abikanlou [1] and released in 1974. It is the director's first feature film, [2] as well as Benin's first fiction feature film. [3] [4] [5] [6] In color, it was shot in 16 mm, then expanded to 35 mm.

Synopsis

A young man neglects the ritual offerings to the voodoo deities and invokes their anger. His family suffers the consequences: house burned, crops destroyed. He leaves for the city to try to help them, but finds himself caught up in drugs. He ends up meeting a young girl who encourages him to return to the village. They marry in the voodoo tradition and the curse is lifted.

The Barber of the Poor Quarter is a 1982 Moroccan film directed by Mohamed Reggab and adapted from a play of the same title by Youssef Fadel. It was the director's sole feature film, and became a Moroccan cult classic. It was screened at the first edition of the National Film Festival in Rabat, where it received as a special mention and the 10th edition of the National Film Festival as part of a series on Moroccan classics. Internationally, the film was screened at Three Continents Festival in 1983, and the Berlin International Film Festival in 1982. The debts incurred for the production of his sole feature film led to Reggab being imprisoned.
