The South Devon Football League, known under a sponsorship arrangement as the TCSSDFL, is a football competition based in England. Its top division, the Premier Division, sits outside of the English football league system although it is a feeder to the Devon Football League which sits at Step 11 of this system. There are five divisions in the league. The SDFL's primary cup competition is the Herald Cup. It is a simple knockout competition featuring all SDFL clubs (highest placed teams only).

Contents

Following the formation of the East Devon FA in 1903, the league came into existence as the Torquay and District League for the 1903/04 season. [1] The first winners were Ellacombe. [2] The league changed its name to the South Devon League for the 1920/21 season. [3]

Torquay is a seaside town in Devon, England, part of the unitary authority area of Torbay. The Weekender was a free weekly newspaper covering Torbay and South Devon, published by the Westcountry Publications. The paper was published in two editions; the Torbay edition covered Torquay, Paignton, and Brixham, while the Newton & Teignbridge edition covered Newton Abbot and Kingsteignton.

The TQ postcode area, also known as the Torquay postcode area, is a group of fourteen postcode districts in South West England, within eleven post towns. These cover much of south Devon, including Torquay, Paignton, Newton Abbot, Brixham, Ashburton, Buckfastleigh, Dartmouth, Kingsbridge, Salcombe, South Brent, Teignmouth and Totnes.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Devon General</span>

Devon General was the principal bus operator in south Devon from 1919. The name was first used by the Devon General Omnibus and Touring Company which was created in 1919. In 1922 it was purchased by the National Electric Construction Company which merged with British Electric Traction in 1931. Nationalisation in 1969 resulted in 1971 with the company being merged into Western National. In 1983 a new Devon General Limited was created which became the first operating subsidiary of the National Bus Company to be privatised in 1986 when it became the first company of Transit Holdings. It was sold to the Stagecoach Group in 1996 and renamed Stagecoach Devon in 2003.

Torquay Tramways operated electric street trams in Torquay, Devon, England, from 1907. They were initially powered by the unusual Dolter stud-contact electrification, but in 1911 was converted to more conventional overhead-line supply. The line was extended into neighbouring Paignton in 1911 but the whole network was closed in 1934.

The league had been formed in 2007 from the merger of the Devon County League and the South Western League, and is restricted to clubs based in Cornwall and Devon. The Premier Division of the South West Peninsula League is on the same level of the National League System as the Western League Division One.

Torbay and Southern Devon Health and Care NHS Trust was a NHS trust that provided health and care in and around Torbay, Devon, England. It was a pioneer within the NHS in England in demonstrating the advantages of integrating health and social care into one organisation. And "one of three areas that have been working to learn from Kaiser Permanente, a leading United States health maintenance organisation." It was established as Torbay Care Trust in October 2005, with responsibility for social care in a partnership agreement with Torbay Borough Council. From then until April 2012, the trust had responsibility for both commissioning (buying) and providing integrated health and social care services to people in the Torbay area. As part of the changes associated with the Health and Social Care Act 2012 the commissioning function was detached from the trust.

The Devon Rugby Football Union is the governing body for the sport of rugby union in the county of Devon in England. The union is the constituent body of the Rugby Football Union (RFU) for Devon, and administers and organises rugby union clubs and competitions in the county. It also administers the Devon county rugby representative teams.
