The music of Assam consists various genres of folk and modern music, drawing its artistic basis from the history of Assam, from Assamese culture and its ancient traditions. In recent times, starting from the late eighties, popular artistes have modernized the music catering to local popular demand.
Assamese cinema is the Indian film industry of Assamese language. It is based in Assam, India. The industry was born in 1935 when Jyoti Prasad Agarwala released his movie Joymoti. Since then the Assamese cinema has developed a slow-paced, sensitive style. In the beginning the industry were called Jollywood, for Agarwala's Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio.
Asamiya Bhasa Unnati Sadhini Sabha was a lite organization formed on Saturday 25 August 1888. It is the precursor of the Asam Sahitya Sabha. The first secretary of this society was Shivaram Sarma Bordoloi. The prime objective of forming this society was the development of Assamese language and literature. This is the pioneering society to shape the then Assamese dialect to today’s state.
Raamdhenu is a 2011 Indian Assamese romantic drama film directed by veteran Munin Barua and produced by Pride East Entertainments Private Limited. Jetuka Pator Dore is a 2011 Indian Assamese drama film based on the novel of the same name by Syed Abdul Malik. The film stars Aimee Baruah and Raag Oinitom, was directed by Jadumoni Dutta and produced by Noorul Sultan for Maina Industrial Co-Operative Society Ltd. The storyline is set to the backdrop of an interior village of Assam, India in the 1970s, which has never seen progress and prosperity, and tells the story of Radha, a young woman of lower caste fighting against corruption and for the rights of her community.
Beauty Sharma Barua is a singer from Assam, India. She is one of the best-known and most respected Assamese folk music, Indian classical music, ghazal and bhajan singers of Assam. More popularly known as The Melody Queen of Assam and Beauty Baideu, she has recorded over a thousand songs for All India Radio, Doordarshan, albums and others. She has sung songs in over six regional Indian languages, though primarily in Assamese and Hindi. Beauty Barua married renowned writer and lyricist Dwijendra Mohan Sharma (1948–2006), called the Man with Melody in His Pen by The Daily Telegraph, in 1976.

Mahasamar is a 2013 Assamese drama film directed by Johns Mahaliya and produced by Hira Gohain. The film tells a story about deforestation. Director and producer claimed that they made the film to aware people against ruthless deforestation. The film was released in theatres on 22 November 2013.

The film received the maximum number of seven awards in Prag Cine Awards North East 2018 in various categories. Lead actor Arun Nath won the Jury Special Award in the 2nd Guwahati International Film Festival for his performance in the film.

The film features Amrita Gogoi and Diganta Hazarika in lead roles while Ashramika Saikia as child artist. It is scheduled to release on 6 December 2019
Sandyaraag is a black and white Assamese language film, directed and produced by Bhabendra Nath Saikia. It was released in theatre in 1977. The film was based on a story titled 'Banprastha'. The screenplay and dialogues were written by the director himself. Sandhyaraag was awarded with silver medal for best Assamese film in the 25th National Film Awards. It is the first Assamese film to be showcased in the Indian Panorama.
