The Star FM Music Awards were established in 2019 by Star FM to celebrate outstanding musicians on their radio station. The awards are presented annually, and are broadcast live on Facebook. The annual presentation ceremony features performances by artists. [2] [3]

Music of Zimbabwe

Zimbabwean music is heavily reliant on the use of instruments such as the mbira, Ngoma drums and hosho. Their music symbolizes much more than a simple rhythm, as the folk and pop style styled music was used as a symbol of hope for Zimbabweans looking to gain independence from Rhodesia. Music has played a significant role in the history of Zimbabwe, from a vital role in the traditional Bira ceremony used to call on ancestral spirits, to protest songs during the struggle for independence. The community in Zimbabwe used music to voice their resistance to their oppression, as one of the only weapons they had available to fight back with. In the eighties, the Music of Zimbabwe was at the center of the African Music scene thanks to genres such as Sungura and Jit. However, several performers were banned by state TV and radio leading to the closing of several music venues.

The 34th Annual Grammy Awards were held on February 25, 1992, recognizing accomplishments by musicians from the previous year (1991). Natalie Cole won the most awards (three), including Album of the Year. Paul Simon opened the show.

Zimbabwean hip hop emerged in the early 1990s. Prominent Hip Hop artists in Zimbabwe include Holy Ten, Asaph,Kriss Newtone,Suhn, Denim Woods, Hanna, Tanto Wavie, Tehn Diamond, Maskiri, Ex Q, Munetsi, Raykaz just to name a few artists from across the old school and new school variants. The genre is known for its association with the lower middle class to upper-class youth in Zimbabwe, with Trap Music being the most popular sub-genre.

Winky D Musical artist

Winky D, born Wallace Chirumiko is a Zimbabwean reggae-dancehall artist, known popularly as "The Big Man", and also known as Dancehall Igwe, Gaffa, Proffesor, Extraterrestrial etc. He is often considered the Zimdancehall pioneer. He was born in Kambuzuma, a high density suburb in Zimbabwe's capital, Harare. He was also a presenter for the Rockers Vibes programme that was an all reggae programme, together with Trevor Hall.

Anugerah Musik Indonesia Annual Indonesian music award

The Anugerah Musik Indonesia, also known as AMI or colloquially AMI Awards, is an annual Indonesian music award ceremony to recognize outstanding achievements in improving the quality and quantity of artists in the mainly Indonesian-language music industry. It has been compared to the American Grammy Awards and British Brit Awards. It provides recognition of the music industry similarly as other entertainment awards such as the Panasonic Gobel Awards (television) and Festival Film Indonesia.

The Namibian Annual Music Awards, (NAMAS), are an annual award ceremony run by MTC Namibia and the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation. The awards exist to recognize accomplishment in the Namibian recording industry by celebrating those groups and individuals who have excelled in the past year. The awards were introduced to replace the Sanlam-NBC Music Awards, which were run by Sanlam Namibia and the Namibian Broadcasting Corporations.

Nigeria Entertainment Awards Nigerian Award Ceremony

The Nigerian Entertainment Awards were established in New York City in January 2006. The awards recognize the contributions of African entertainers with a special focus on Nigerians.

The Midlands Music Awards (MMAs) are an annual award ceremony, run by the Midlands Music Organization, where accolades are presented to members of Zimbabwe's music industry who come from the Midlands Province of Zimbabwe. Winners receive a statuette. The event was established in June 2014. The ceremony is held in June every year and contenders are judged on performances made in the previous year. The show is held at the Midlands Hotel in the capital of the province Gweru and broadcast on Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation - Zbc TV. The ceremony features live performances by some of the nominees.

All Africa Music Awards is an annual awards event. The awards event was established by the International Committee AFRIMA, in collaboration with the African Union (AU) to reward and celebrate musical works, talents and creativity around the African continent while promoting the African cultural heritage. Its pioneer Awards show was held in 2014.

Janet Manyowa is a Zimbabwean gospel musician.

Zim Hip Hop Awards also known as Zimbabwe Hip Hop Awards is an annual awards event created to recognise outstanding Zimbabwean hip hop artists in Zimbabwe as well as diaspora based hip hop artists. The awards are presented in December each year.
