Stephanie McIntosh (born 5 July 1985) [1] is an Australian actress and singer. She played the role of Sky Mangel in the Australian soap opera Neighbours from 2003 to 2007. She made a brief appearance for one episode in 2015 as part of the show's 30th anniversary celebrations, and returned again in 2020 as part of the shows 35th anniversary episodes, and a cameo appearance in 2022. As a singer, she released her debut album, Tightrope , in September 2006. It peaked at No. 4 on the ARIA Albums Chart.

Early life and education

Stephanie McIntosh was born on 5 July 1985 and grew up in Sydney, Australia. Her father is John McIntosh and her mother is Sue McIntosh (née Menlove), a former TV actress and ABC newsreader. [2] McIntosh has two older sisters, Katherine and Olivia. [3] Her half-brother is actor and singer Jason Donovan from her mother's previous marriage to actor Terence Donovan. [2]

McIntosh attended Firbank and then Melbourne Girls Grammar School, where she recalled "I involved myself in every play and every musical and I did drama classes." [4] She left during Year 12 to start her acting career. [4] As a teenager, she worked in a musical with stand-up comedian and part-time dancer, Tommy Dassalo. [5]

Career

2001–2007: Acting career and Neighbours

McIntosh's acting debut was in the film The Wilde Girls (2001) as Carrie, alongside Olivia Newton-John. She followed this with a role on Australian children's television show The Legacy of the Silver Shadow (2002). [6] In March 2003, McIntosh signed a three-year contract to appear in the Australian soap opera Neighbours . [6] McIntosh joined the main cast as character Sky Mangel. [4] Her half-brother, Jason Donovan, had also acted in Neighbours from 1986 to 1989. [2] Growing up, she was neighbours with Alan Fletcher and was invited to the set by him, prior to acting alongside him. [7] For McIntosh's performance in Neighbours, she was nominated for the "Most Popular New Female Talent" award at the 46th Annual TV Week Logie Awards held in 2004. She was also nominated for "Favorite Hottie" at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. After filming over 500 episodes, she left Neighbours in April 2007 to focus on her singing career. [8]

2004–2007: Music career

McIntosh's music career began in 2004 when her version of the song "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" was included on the album The Spirit of Christmas 2004 . She recorded her debut demo single, "Happiest Day of My Life", in March 2005.

In April 2006, McIntosh signed a multi-album deal with Universal Music Australia. [9]

The two years that McIntosh spent making the album was turned into a reality TV show The Steph Show , produced by Tom Nichols and Arnon Woolfson. The show debuted on Network Ten on 28 July 2006, the day before the release of her debut single, "Mistake", and finished on 15 September 2006, the date the music video for her second single Tightrope was released.

Her debut single, "Mistake", was released on 29 July 2006 and premiered on Australian radio on 26 June 2006. It debuted on the ARIA Charts at No. 3, and was certified Gold in August 2006, with shipments of over 35,000 units.

"Tightrope", the second single to be lifted off the album, made the Australian top 20. The album debuted and peaked at No. 4 on the ARIA Charts and at No. 1 on the Australasian Charts and was also accredited Gold.

The third single, written by McIntosh, "So Do I Say Sorry First?", was not as successful as her previous singles, peaking at number No. 34 on the ARIA Singles Chart.

A special re-packaged edition of the album Tightrope was released on 19 March 2007. [10] At her appearance on Habbo Hotel on 8 March 2007 McIntosh confirmed that the re-packaged edition will feature remixes of the singles released from Tightrope as well as the bonus track "Catching My Breath". She also confirmed that a second season of The Steph Show was in the pipeline. In mid-May 2007, she released her demo single, "In My Skin". McIntosh was also nominated for "Spankin' New Artist" at the 2006 MTV Australia Video Music Awards, at which she also performed "So Do I Say Sorry First?"

McIntosh performed at university bars and nightclubs across the UK from September to November 2007 to build her popularity there. [11]

2008–present: Further acting roles

McIntosh was approached in 2008 to appear on Dancing with the Stars in Australia; [12] however, she has not appeared in the series.

In May 2008, the Herald Sun reported that McIntosh had been in Los Angeles, meeting with potential agents and managers. She auditioned for roles in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009), the CBS mini-series Harper's Island , and Beverly Hills, 90210 , but failed to secure them. [13] [14] [15]

McIntosh appeared in the thriller Liars All (2013) as Casey Kass, [16] and in Red Herring (2014) as Charlie, which co-starred former Neighbours castmate Holly Valance. [17]

McIntosh reprised the role of Sky Mangel in Neighbours for one episode in 2015, as part of the show's 30th-anniversary celebrations. [18] She was heavily pregnant at the time, and her return had initially been set up as a one-month role. [7]

After a five-year acting career hiatus, McIntosh reprised her role on Neighbours as Sky Mangel on a recurring basis in 2020. [19] Sky also appeared in the last-ever episode, broadcast on 29 July 2022, though McIntosh was not seen in the UK broadcast. [20] [21]

Personal life

McIntosh dated AFL star Nick Riewoldt for four-and-a-half years, breaking up in late 2009.

In March 2014, she began dating Peter Hieatt, a landscape designer. They have two daughters: Milla (born December 2014) and Goldie Grace (born October 2018). [22] [23]

Ramsay Street is the fictional cul-de-sac in which the characters of the Australian soap opera Neighbours live. The street is set in the equally fictional Melbourne suburb of Erinsborough. Neighbours storylines primarily centre on the residents of the street, which was named after Jack Ramsay, the grandfather of original character Max Ramsay. A blackjack game between Jack and Sam Robinson determined whose name the street would be named after. Only six houses on the street are featured on a regular basis; numbers 22 to 32. Number 34 was featured for the only time in 2018. The cul-de-sac is at the end of a long street and the rest of the houses are on the other side of the main road which bisects it. The street behind Ramsay Street is named Mirrabooka Drive. A storyline within the show saw the name of the street nearly changed to Ramsbottom Street. Harold Bishop led a protest against it and won.

Joe's storylines included his bad relationship with his mother, being widowed, life as a single parent and a custody battle to keep his child. McIntosh reprised her role as part of the show's 30th anniversary celebrations on 20 March 2015. She returned for a longer stint as part of the 35th anniversary on 13 March 2020, and made an unannounced cameo appearance in the final episode on 28 July 2022, though her appearance was only broadcast in the Australian cut of the episode.

Minogue was initially contracted for a week, but this was later extended through to mid-1988. She made her first screen appearance during the episode broadcast on 17 April 1986.

Neighbours is an Australian television soap opera, which has aired since 18 March 1985. It was created by television executive Reg Watson. The Seven Network commissioned the show following the success of Watson's earlier soap Sons and Daughters. Although successful in Melbourne, Neighbours underperformed in the Sydney market and was cancelled by Seven four months after it began airing. It was immediately commissioned by rival Network Ten for a second production season, which began screening on 20 January 1986. Neighbours became the longest-running drama series in Australian television history. In 2005, it was inducted into the Logie Hall of Fame.

Following her arrival in Erinsborough, Kerry began a relationship with Joe Mangel and they eventually married. Kerry adopted Joe's son and fell pregnant again. <i>Neighbours</i>: The Finale Episode of Neighbours

"Neighbours: The Finale" comprises the 8901st, 8902nd and 8903rd episodes of the Australian television soap opera Neighbours. It premiered on 28 July 2022 on both Network 10 and 10 Peach in Australia, and on 29 July on Channel 5 in the United Kingdom. It was conceived as the end of the serial, after it was cancelled due to the loss of its UK broadcaster and failure to find an alternative buyer, and production ceased after it was filmed. The episodes were written by Shane Isheev and executive producer Jason Herbison, and directed by Scott Major. Production on Neighbours ended on 10 June. Production and cast had known the show was facing cancellation since 2021 and ideas for a suitable finale were already being planned at that point. In response to the news of the show's potential cancellation becoming public in early 2022, an online petition amassed more than 67,000 signatures to save the show. The petition did not change Channel 5's decision, who maintained that Neighbours remained popular and ending the show was solely a "business decision". Production were then tasked with bringing the show to an end within a few months. Herbison had already envisioned an ideal way to end the series, and Isheev and other writers supported his plans. Herbison did not wish to end the show with excessive finality, such as in the destruction of the primary location of Ramsay Street, and opted for a celebratory theme that acknowledged the show's history.

<i>Neighbours</i> 30th Anniversary 2015 Neighbours storyline

The Neighbours 30th Anniversary was a series of celebrations to mark the 30th anniversary of Australian television soap opera Neighbours. The celebrations span over two weeks, beginning on 4 March 2015 in Australia, while starting on 18 March in the United Kingdom. The anniversary features many storylines, but points around Paul Robinson's Erinsborough festival and the wedding of Daniel Robinson and Amber Turner. The serial's executive producer, Jason Herbison, began planning the 30th anniversary over a year in advance. Over ten former cast members from all eras of the show were invited back to "honour the past and present". Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan were also invited, but they both downturned the offer. The celebrations marked Ian Smith and Anne Charleston's returns to Neighbours as Harold and Madge Bishop respectively. Madge was last seen during her death in 2001 and returns as a ghost in Harold's mind, which Herbison was initially worried would not be accepted by Charleston nor Smith, however both approved of it. The storyline was also popular amongst viewers.

Jemma Donovan is an English-Australian actress. She made her on-screen debut in the BBC television film Mr Stink when she was 12 years old. In 2015, Donovan played Maddy Bastière in the French-American series Spotless. After relocating to Australia, Donovan joined the regular cast of Neighbours as Harlow Robinson. Three members of her family had previously starred in the soap opera, including her father Jason Donovan. She made her debut July 2019 and also appeared in the spin-off series Neighbours: Erinsborough High. She left the serial in July 2022. Shortly after moving back to the United Kingdom, Donovan secured the role of "party girl" Rayne Royce who died from being pushed in her swimming pool by an unknown character in the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks.
