Stephen Moriarty

Stephen W. Moriarty (born December 14, 1949, in Boston, Massachusetts) [1] is an American politician from Maine. Moriarty is a graduate of Bowdoin College (1972) and the University of Maine School of Law (1978). [2] He joined the law firm Norman, Hanson, & DeTroy in 1981. [3]

A member of the Democratic Party, Moriarty served as a member of the Cumberland, Maine, Town Council from 1987 to 1993, and again between 1997 and 2012. He was elected to the Maine House of Representatives from district 108, encompassing Cumberland, in 2012, [4] and stepped down in 2014 after Cumberland was redistricted to district 45. [5] In April 2019, Moriarty was selected by the Democratic Party to contest the open seat of district 45 House of Representatives member Dale Denno, who had resigned. [6] Moriarty defeated Kevin Hughes in a June 2019 special election. [7]

Moriarty had three siblings and is married to Pam. [8]

The Democrat in the race, Cynthia Bullens, dropped out of the race and endorsed Woodbury, though her name remained on the ballot. He served three terms from 2002 to 2008 in the Maine House of Representatives. He has also been a visiting scholar with the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and written extensively on tax reform in Maine.

Douglas Myles Smith is an American politician from Maine. Smith, a Republican, served in Maine House of Representatives from 1971 to 1977 and the Maine Senate from 2006 to 2010 from District 27, which included his residence of Dover-Foxcroft in Piscataquis County. He chose not to seek re-election in 2010 and was replaced by Republican Douglas Thomas. In 2010, Smith was rumored to have sought the position of Maine Attorney General which eventually went to William Schneider.

Joshua "Josh" Abraham Tardy is an American politician and attorney from Maine. A Republican, Tardy served in the Maine House of Representatives from the 125th and 25th districts from 2002 to 2010, including two terms as Minority Leader (2006-2010). He also served as Assistant Minority Leader from 2004 to 2006. He was unable to seek re-election due to term-limits.

Anne Carney is an American Democratic politician and attorney from Maine. She currently serves in the Maine Senate representing District 29, which consists of Cape Elizabeth, South Portland, and part of Scarborough. Carney was born in Baltimore, Maryland and attended Haverford College where she received a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.). She completed a Master of Theological Studies (M.T.S) from Harvard University in 1987 and moved to Maine in 1988. Carney completed a Juris Doctor at the University of Maine School of Law in 1990 and practiced employment, civil rights and municipal law for 16 years. She was a pro bono In-House Volunteer Attorney at Pine Tree Legal Assistance for eight years before running for Maine House of Representatives District 30 in 2018. In 2020, Carney was elected to her first term in the Maine Senate.
