Steve Augeri (born January 30, 1959) is an American rock singer best known for his work as the lead singer of Journey [1] from 1998 to 2006. He has also provided lead vocals for Tall Stories, Tyketto, [2] and the Steve Augeri Band. He is a member of the supergroup Bad Penny.

Early life and education

Steve Augeri, the son of Joseph and Emma Augeri, was born on January 30, 1959, and raised in the Bensonhurst neighborhood of Brooklyn. [3]

Initially studying woodwinds at New York City's High School of Music and Art, Augeri switched to bassoon and soon discovered his love for classical music. [4]

Career

Augeri has taught at French Woods Festival for the Performing Arts Summer Camp. [5] He also sang with Michael Ward of The Innocent Criminals. [6]

Augeri, along with guitarist Jack Morer, bass player Kevin Totoian, and drummer Tom De Faria, formed the band Tall Stories in 1988 in New York City. [7] Tall Stories was nominated for “Best Debut Album”, and Augeri for “Best Debut Male Vocalist”, at the 1992 New York Music Awards. [8] Tall Stories disbanded in 1995. [9] [10]

Augeri provided lead vocals on Tyketto's 1995 album, Shine, [11] and its 1996 album, Take Out & Served Up Live. [1]

Augeri was working as a maintenance manager at the GAP when he received a phone call from Jonathan Cain and Neal Schon of Journey offering him an audition. [12] Augeri joined Journey as lead vocalist in 1998. [13] [11] He has stated that replacing Steve Perry as the band's lead singer was "incredibly daunting". [11] The song "Remember Me", from the soundtrack album from the movie Armageddon , represents Augeri's recording debut with the band. [14] Augeri recorded three albums with Journey: Arrival (2001), the EP Red 13 (2002), and Generations (2005). The live DVD of Journey's Las Vegas concert recorded in December 2000, entitled Journey 2001 , acquired platinum status. [15] Augeri left the band in 2006 [16] due to vocal problems. [11]

Augeri and his wife Lydia have supported various charities with personal appearances and live performances, including Journey to the Cure (Breast Cancer Foundation), Little Baby Face Foundation, Diamond Angels (Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital), and March of Dimes. [15]

Augeri has stated that he formed the Steve Augeri Band in 2012. [13] He has toured with the band [14] and has recorded as a solo artist. [17]

Augeri and others formed the supergroup Bad Penny in 2020. [18]

Personal life

Augeri is married to Lydia Augeri [15] and has a son, Adam Augeri. [14] As of 2020, Augeri resided in Staten Island, New York. [15]

Generations is the twelfth studio album by the American rock band Journey. It was the band's last album with lead singer Steve Augeri and second album with drummer Deen Castronovo, confirming the line-up of 2000's Arrival and 2002's Red 13 EP. The album was given away for free by the band during most of the concerts of the Generations Tour in 2005, and subsequently released on Sanctuary Records later the same year.

Flaw is an American heavy metal band from Louisville, Kentucky, formed by guitarist Jason Daunt in 1996. After a string of rough independent recordings in the 1990s, the band signed to Republic and Universal Music Group and released two major label albums, Through the Eyes in 2001 and Endangered Species in 2004. Breakups, line-up changes, and internal strife plagued the band for the rest of the decade, though from 2015 to 2017, the band reformed with three of their core members to tour and write music. The band released their third studio album, Divided We Fall, in 2016, and a fourth studio album, Vol IV: Because of the Brave in 2019. An album of cover songs, Revival, was later released in 2022. Stephen Grimmett was a British singer who was the lead singer and frontman of the heavy metal band Grim Reaper. Of Grim Reaper's numerous lineups over the band's existence Grimmett was the sole consistent member from 1982 to 1988, then 2006 until his death in 2022. Outside of Grim Reaper, Grimmett has been associated with many other various metal-based acts/projects.

Danny Vaughn is an American singer. Vaughn has performed with Waysted, Tyketto and Vaughn and now performs and releases under his own name. He was also a lead singer in the Ultimate Eagles.

<i>Journey 2001</i> 2001 video by Journey

Journey 2001 is the first live DVD by the American rock band Journey, released in 2001. It is also the only live DVD to feature Steve Augeri on lead vocals, who replaced longtime singer Steve Perry in 1998 with the song "Remember Me" on the Armageddon soundtrack. It features footage of a concert recorded in December 2000, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The setlist was primarily old songs from the band's history, as well as two new songs from the then-upcoming album Arrival, which was released later in 2001. Kevin Shirley produced and mixed the audio tracks.

Art of Anarchy is an American hard rock supergroup formed in 2011. The band features twin brothers Jon and Vince Votta on guitar and drums, bassist Tony Dickinson, former Guns N' Roses guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal as co-guitarist and producer, and, as of 2020, Sons of Apollo vocalist Jeff Scott Soto. The band's first album features the late former Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver vocalist Scott Weiland on vocals. The second album, The Madness, features Creed vocalist Scott Stapp.
