Sugar Alliance of the Philippines

The Sugar Alliance of the Philippines is a non-profit, industry association of the sugar industry of the Philippines. [1] It is the biggest group of sugar planters and millers in the Philippines. [2] Bloomberg says the alliance "works to promote better relations between sugar planters and millers, addressing industry problems, and other issues concerning the sugar industry." [1] Its headquarters is located in Makati, Metro Manila, Philippines. [1]

The Sugar Anti-Smuggling Organization is part of the alliance. [3]

Members of the alliance include National Federation of Sugarcane Planters, the Unifed, the Panay Fed and Confed. [4]

The Philippine Sugar Millers Association is a separate organization.

The University of the Philippines is a state university system in the Philippines, and is the country's national university. Founded by the American colonial government on June 18, 1908 for the Filipinos, it was established through the ratification of Act No. 1870 of the 1st Philippine Legislature to provide "advanced instruction in literature, philosophy, the sciences and arts, and to give professional and technical training" to eligible students regardless of "age, sex, nationality, religious belief and political affiliation." Plantation owners introduced welfare programs, sometimes out of concern for the workers, but often designed to suit their economic ends. Threats, coercion, and "divide and rule" tactics were employed, particularly to keep the plantation workers ethnically segregated.

Otso Diretso was an electoral alliance formed to field candidates for the 2019 Philippine general election, in opposition to President Rodrigo Duterte. Otso Diretso fielded eight candidates for the Senate election from the Liberal, Akbayan, Magdalo Party-List, and Aksyon Demokratiko parties.
