Sun Valley on Ice is an annual ice show organized by Sun Valley Resort. The show was created in 1937 and takes place on Saturday night throughout the summer, featuring the Sun Valley on Ice cast with invited national and international guest stars. The show takes place under the stars in Sun Valley Resort's outdoor ice rink with grandstand seating and seating at the terrace of Sun Valley Lodge that has a buffet and bar service throughout the performances.
Sun Valley Lodge was specifically designed to display its outdoor ice rink with Sun Valley Resort founder Averell Harriman asking architect Gilbert Stanley Underwood to make the rink a focus. [1] The resort and its rink opened in 1936, and in 1937, Sun Valley Lodge, Union Pacific and Sun Valley Skating Club created Sun Valley on Ice. Initially, the ice surface of the rink measured a small 120’ by 60’ until a larger rink was built in its place in 1955. [2] In the 1940s, Sun Valley installed a refrigeration system that made it possible to keep the rink open all year, and the resort added an indoor rink in 1975. [3] The well-known outdoor rink has appeared in the Sonia Henie movie Sun Valley Serenade (1941), an episode of Lucille Ball's I Love Lucy , and has played host to numerous world class skaters throughout the years. In 2022, Sun Valley Resort started building a new refrigeration system after an electrical failure before the final show of the summer starring Jason Brown and Alysa Liu. The show had to be canceled for the safety of the skaters. [3]
Sun Valley on Ice consists of a season of outdoor summer ice shows that aim to highlight new stars, athletic performances and new sounds. [5] Sun Valley on Ice was initially developed by Audrey Peppe and Herman Maricich. Peppe, a national champion and Olympic competitor from New York, headlined the first edition of the show and was one of the early head skating instructors at Sun Valley. Maricich eventually took over from her. [4]

Sun Valley is a resort city in the western United States, in Blaine County, Idaho, adjacent to the city of Ketchum in the Wood River valley. The population was 1,783 at the 2020 census. The elevation of Sun Valley is 5,920 feet (1,805 m) above sea level.
The 1960 Winter Olympics were a winter multi-sport event held from February 18 to 28, 1960, at the Squaw Valley Resort in Squaw Valley, California, United States. The resort was chosen to host the Games at the 1956 meeting of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Squaw Valley was an undeveloped resort in 1955, so the infrastructure and all of the venues were built between 1956 and 1960 at a cost of US$80,000,000. The layout was designed to be intimate, allowing spectators and competitors to reach most of the venues on foot.

The Guidant John Rose Minnesota Oval, formerly the John Rose Minnesota Oval, is an outdoor ice rink in Roseville, Minnesota, United States. It is claimed to be the largest artificial outdoor skating surface in North America. The facility was constructed from June to December 1993. It was the subject of a $3.9 million renovation project which was set to be completed before the opening of the rink's 29th season on November 18, 2022. It is the home of bandy in the United States and is used by the United States men's national bandy team and the United States women's national bandy team.
The National Ice Centre (NIC) is located in Nottingham, England. It is situated just east of the city centre, close to the historic Lace Market area. The NIC was the first twin Olympic-sized ice pad facility in the UK, "heralding a new era in the development of ice skating". Incorporating the Nottingham Arena, the NIC is a combined live entertainment and leisure venue.
Blyth Arena was an ice skating arena in the western United States, located at Squaw Valley, California. It was built in 1959 as venue for ice hockey, figure skating competitions, and the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1960 Winter Olympics. With a seating capacity of 8,500, standing-room crowds of 10,000 were reported for the hockey games between the U.S. and the Soviet Union and the U.S.-Czechoslovakia game during the final day. The elevation of the rink was 6,200 feet (1,890 m) above sea level.

An ice show is an entertainment production which is primarily performed by ice skaters. Such shows may primarily be skating exhibitions, or may be musical and/or dramatic in nature, using skating as a medium in order to accompany a musical work or to present a story. The term generally excludes skating competitions in (professional) sports. Many companies produce fixed or touring ice shows, which are then performed for the general public in facilities such as multipurpose arenas or skating rinks which can accommodate spectators, or in theatres with a temporary ice surface installed on the stage. Ice shows are also featured as entertainment in amusement parks and on some large cruise ships.
McCormick Tribune Plaza & Ice Rink or McCormick Tribune Plaza is a multi-purpose venue within Millennium Park in the Loop community area of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. On December 20, 2001, it became the first attraction in Millennium Park to open. The $3.2 million plaza was funded by a donation from the McCormick Tribune Foundation. The Phillip Swimming and Ice Skating Centre is an ice sports, public swimming and ice rink centre. The Phillip pool opened in 1970 and the Ice Rink was built and opened in 1980. It is located in Philip a suburb of Woden Valley, Canberra, ACT, Australia. It is the current home of the CBR Brave AIHL ice hockey team and the Canberra Pirates national women's tier two ice hockey team. It was the previous home of the Canberra Knights AIHL ice hockey team between 1981-2014. The Phillip Ice Skating Centre is the only ice rink in the ACT.

Alysa Liu is an American competitive figure skater. She is the 2022 World bronze medalist, the 2021 CS Nebelhorn Trophy champion, the 2021 CS Lombardia Trophy champion, and a two-time U.S. national champion. At age 16, she competed in the 2022 Winter Olympics, placing seventh. At the junior level, Liu is the 2020 World Junior bronze medalist, the 2019–20 Junior Grand Prix Final silver medalist, a two-time Junior Grand Prix champion, and the 2018 U.S. junior national champion.
Santa Fe Valley is a cancelled hotel-casino that was planned by Santa Fe Gaming for 40 acres (16 ha) of land in Henderson, Nevada, next to the Galleria at Sunset mall. The project was announced in 1994, and construction was expected to begin in July 1996. The start of construction was delayed several times because of poor financial quarters for Santa Fe Gaming and because of the company not yet receiving financing for the project. Site preparation started in July 1998, with an opening date scheduled for December 1999, but construction never began. In 1999, the property was sold to Station Casinos, which sold the land a year later for use as a shopping center.
The Queenstown Ice Arena is an ice sports and public skate centre, opened originally in 1966 as an outdoor ice rink it was later rebuilt as an indoor arena in 1996 and is located at Queenstown Gardens, next to the town of Queenstown, Otago, New Zealand. It is the current home venue of the Skycity Stampede in the New Zealand Ice Hockey League (NZIHL) and Wakatipu Wild in the New Zealand Women's Ice Hockey League (NZWIHL). Queenstown Ice Arena is the only ice rink in Queenstown and is one of only two in Otago, along with Dunedin Ice Stadium.
