Surasa Mairer (born Paula Mairer, March 6, 1959, in St. Justina, Austria) is an ultra-distance runner. She works as a secretary and lives in Vienna. Surasa is a disciple from the spiritual master Sri Chinmoy. [1]

Biography

She started running in 1987 at the age of 28 years. Previously, she had not done any sport. "Since then I try the teaching of integral Yoga. A part of this teaching is sporty fitness." In September 1996, she was able to run 700 miles (1126 km).

Chinmoy Kumar Ghose, better known as Sri Chinmoy (27 August 1931 – 11 October 2007), was an Indian spiritual leader who taught meditation in the West after moving to New York City in 1964. Chinmoy established his first meditation center in Queens, New York, and eventually had 7,000 students in 60 countries. Al Howie Canadian long-distance runner

Arthur "Al" Howie was a Canadian long-distance runner who won more than fifty marathons, ultramarathons, and multiday races in over two decades, including the 1991 Trans Canada Highway run in the record time of 72 days and 10 hours. A brass plaque on Victoria's Mile Zero marker commemorates this athletic event for which he raised $750,000 for a fund for children with special needs. Two weeks after running across Canada he won the Sri Chinmoy 1300 Miler in New York improving on his own world record time. Both the Trans Canada run and the 1,300-mile (2,100 km) race qualified for the Guinness Book of Records. He lived in Duncan, B.C., from 2005 until his death in 2016. He had been receiving treatment for Diabetes I. The City of Duncan awarded him the Perpetual Trophy for Excellence and Sportsmanship in December 2007, and in 2014 he was inducted into The Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame.

The Ottawa Self-Transcendence 24 Hour Race is part of a triple Ultramarathon race in the National Capital Region Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The run takes place currently in July, organised by the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team. For many years, this race was held on an outdoor track at the Terry Fox Athletic Facility, and then indoors at the Louis Riel dome, on a 400-metre track. Since 2017, the race has been and continues to be held outdoors at the Asticou Training Centrein Gatineau, Quebec. Runners from Canada and all over the world participate. It is the longest-running 24 hour race and oldest timed ultrarace worldwide. Runners from Canada and all over the world participate.
