The University for Peace (UPEACE) is an international university and intergovernmental organization established as a treaty organisation by the United Nations General Assembly in 1980. The university offers postgraduate,doctoral,and executive programmes related to the study of peace and conflict,environment and development,and international law.
Yash Pal Ghai CBE is a Kenyan academic in constitutional law. As of 2007 he is the head of the Constitution Advisory Support Unit of the United Nations Development Programme in Nepal. Until 2008,he was a Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Cambodia on human rights. In September 2008,he resigned his post,following bitter arguments with the Government of Cambodia. He has been a Fellow of the British Academy since 2005.

Stephen Myron Schwebel,is an American jurist and international judge,counsel and arbitrator. He previously served as judge of the World Bank Administrative Tribunal (2010–2017),as a member of the U.S. National Group at the Permanent Court of Arbitration,as president of the International Monetary Fund Administrative Tribunal (1993–2010),as president of the International Court of Justice (1997–2000),as vice president of the International Court of Justice (1994–1997),and as Judge of the International Court of Justice (1981–2000). Prior to his tenure on the ICJ,Schwebel served as deputy legal adviser to the U.S. Department of State (1974–1981) and as assistant legal adviser to the U.S. Department of State (1961–1967). He also served as a professor of law at Harvard Law School (1959–1961) and Johns Hopkins University (1967–1981). Schwebel is noted for his expansive opinions in momentous cases such as Legality of the Threat or Use of Nuclear Weapons, Military and Paramilitary Activities in and Against Nicaragua and Oil Platforms.

His main academic specializations are in Roman-Dutch law,public international law,jurisprudence,human rights,criminal procedure and international criminal law. He has served on the International Law Commission,the primary UN institution for the development of international law,and has been active in reporting on human-rights violations by Israel in the Palestinian territories.
Philip Geoffrey Alston is an Australian international law scholar and human rights practitioner. He is John Norton Pomeroy Professor of Law at New York University School of Law,and co-chair of the law school's Center for Human Rights and Global Justice. In human rights law,Alston has held a range of senior UN appointments for over two decades,including United Nations Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial,summary or arbitrary executions,a position he held from August 2004 to July 2010,and UN Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights from 2014-2020.

Vitit Muntarbhorn is an international human rights expert and professor of law at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok,Thailand. Muntarbhorn was designated in September 2016 as the first UN Independent Expert on violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity by the Human Rights Council before succeeded by Victor Madrigal-Borloz in 2018.
Martin Scheinin is an international law scholar who served as the first United Nations Special Rapporteur on human rights and counter-terrorism in 2005–2011. He was selected for this position after serving for eight years (1997–2004) as member of the United Nations Human Rights Committee,the independent expert body monitoring states' compliance with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. While on the committee,he was known as a defendant of the rights of minorities and indigenous peoples and opponent of capital punishment,as well as the drafter of the committee's General Comment No. 29 on states of emergency.
Olivier De Schutter is a Belgian legal scholar specialising in economic and social rights. He served as the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to food from 2008 to 2014. He is a Professor of international human rights law,European Union law and legal theory at the University of Louvain (UCLouvain) in Louvain-la-Neuve,Belgium,as well as at the College of Europe and at Sciences Po in Paris. He was a regular visiting professor at Columbia University between 2008 and 2012 and has regularly contributed to the American University Washington College of Law's Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law. He is the first chair of the Belgian Advisory Council on Policy Coherence for Development and he co-chairs the International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems (IPES-Food),a group of experts from various disciplines and regions who work together towards developing proposals for food systems reform. A Member of the UN Committee on Economic,Social and Cultural Rights between 2015 and 2020,he was appointed the UN Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights,and took up his functions on May 1,2020.

Heyns was a visiting professor at American University Washington College of Law's Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (2006–2012).
Nepal,a Himalayan country situated in South Asia,is one of the poor country because of undeveloped resources. There is a lack of access to basic facilities,people have superstitious beliefs,and there are high levels of gender discrimination. Although the Constitution provides for protection of women,including equal pay for equal work,the Government has not taken significant action to implement its provisions.

E. Tendayi Achiume is a Professor of Law and former Faculty Director of the Promise Institute for Human Rights at the University of California,Los Angeles. She served as the United Nations special rapporteur on Racism,Racial Discrimination,Xenophobia and Related Intolerance from her appointment in September 2017 until November 2022. She was the first woman appointed to this position since its creation in 1993.

Chaloka Beyani is a professor of international law at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He has worked and published extensively in the fields of international human rights law,international criminal law and international humanitarian law,as well as on issues relating to humanitarian assistance and population displacements,in particular internal displacement. In 2023 Beyani was nominated by Zambia for election to the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The Netherlands co-nominated Beyani. Zambia had previously put Beyani forth for the 2017 International Court of Justice judges election,but withdrew his name prior to the candidate selection process. If elected,he would have been the first Zambian judge at the ICJ. After five rounds of voting in the Security Council and one round of voting in the General Assembly,Beyani was not elected.
