The Swimming Federation of India (SFI) is the national governing body for aquatic sports in India. Legally, it is a non-profit association registered under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act, 1861. [4] The federation holds elections for its office bearers every four years. [5] The SFI currently oversees competition in the sports of swimming, masters swimming, synchronized swimming, diving, high diving, and water polo. It is affiliated to FINA, [6] and the Asia Swimming Federation (AASF). [7]
The SFI was formed by the merger of the National Swimming Association (NSA) and the Indian Swimming Federation (ISF) in 1948. Prior to the merger, the NSA and ISF had been engaged in disputes. While the Calcutta-based NSA received affiliation from FINA in 1932–33, the ISF had the support of the Indian Olympic Association. The Union Government intervened to resolve the dispute by merging the two entities to form the SFI. [8] [9]
In July 2017, FINA presented a certificate to SFI CEO Virendra Nanavati during the 17th FINA World Championship in honour of his services to the discipline. [10]

World Aquatics, formerly known as FINA, is the international federation recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for administering international competitions in water sports. It is one of several international federations which administer a given sport or discipline for both the IOC and the international community. It is based in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The 10th FINA World Aquatics Championships were held July 12–27, 2003 in Barcelona, Spain. The championships featured competition in all 5 of FINA's disciplines: Swimming, Diving, Synchronised swimming, Water Polo, and Open Water Swimming.
The Swedish Swimming Federation is the national federation for Aquatics in body of Swimming in Sweden, as well as the other Aquatics sports: diving, synchronized swimming, water polo and open water swimming. It was founded on 23 March 1904 and is a member of LEN and FINA.
The Chinese Swimming Association is the national federation which oversees aquatic sports in China. It is a national non-governmental, nonprofit sports organization which oversees competition in swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, water polo, and open water swimming.
The Japan Swimming Federation, is the national federation for Aquatics in Japan. It oversees Japan's Swimming, Diving, Water Polo and Synchronized Swimming competitive programs. It was founded on October 31, 1924. It is affiliated to FINA, the Asia Swimming Federation, the Japanese Olympic Committee and the Japan Amateur Sports Association.
The Asia Swimming Federation (AASF) oversees international aquatics competitions in Asia, and is affiliated to the Olympic Council of Asia and to FINA. It was founded in 1978 in Bangkok; and currently has its administrative headquarters in Muscat, Oman.
The Oceania Swimming Association is the continental governing body recognised by FINA, for the national governing bodies of swimming, open water swimming, diving, water polo, synchronised swimming and masters swimming in Oceania.
India men's national water polo team is the representative for India in international men's water polo. Water Polo in India is administered by the Swimming Federation of India (SFI). India's men's best performance was when they won gold at the 1951 Asian Games. The India men's national water polo team also won a silver medal at the 1970 Asian Games, losing to Japan, 4 goals to 3 in the finals. The next time India won a medal was a bronze at the 1982 Asian Games.
Philippine Aquatics Incorporated is the national governing body of aquatic sports in the Philippines. It oversees swimming, diving, and water polo. The organization is accredited by the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) since October 2023.
Singapore Aquatics is the national governing body for competitive swimming, diving, synchronised swimming, water polo and open water swimming in Singapore. SAQ is also charged with selecting the Singapore Olympic Swimming team and any other teams that officially represent Singapore, as well as the overall organisation and operation of the sport within the country.
India competed at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, from 18 August to 2 September. Neeraj Chopra was the flag bearer for the opening ceremony while Rani Rampal was named as the flag bearer for the closing ceremony.
The Tenpin Bowling Federation (India), abbreviated to TBFI, is the national sports federation for ten-pin bowling in India. Legally, it is a non-profit association registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. The Bowling Federation of India was founded in 1975. The organization was renamed to the Tenpin Bowling Federation (India) in 2007.
The INDIA TAEKWONDO (IT) replaced Taekwondo Federation of India (TFI) as the national governing body for Taekwondo in India on confirmation from World Taekwondo on 9th July 2019.
The diving competitions at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima took place from August 1 to 5, 2019 at the Aquatics Centre. It was one of four aquatic sports at the Games, along with swimming, water polo, and artistic swimming.

The 2022 World Aquatics Championships, the 19th edition of the FINA World Aquatics Championships, were held in Budapest, Hungary, from 17 June to 3 July 2022. These championships included five disciplines, with high diving not staged for this edition of the championships.
India women's national water polo team is the representative for India in international women's water polo. Water Polo in India is administered by the Swimming Federation of India (SFI). India's Women's team made their debut at the 2010 Asian Games where they finished fourth. They participated in their first Asian Championships in 2012 where they finished fifth.
