Syria is an unincorporated community in Paoli Township, Orange County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. [1]
A post office was established at Syria in 1880, and remained in operation until 1904. [2] The community probably took its name from Syria, in Western Asia. [3]

The county has four incorporated settlements with a total population of about 8,600, as well as several small unincorporated communities. It is divided into 10 townships which provide local services.
