Projects

The current iteration of the Philippines' longest-running noontime variety and entertainment show Eat Bulaga! , co-produced by TVJ Productions and TV5, premiered on July 1, 2023, which replaced the latter's simulcast of ABS-CBN Studios's noontime show It's Showtime . [4] The show was then known by its placeholder title E.A.T. , pending a trademark dispute between TAPE, Inc. and TVJ Productions which eventually concluded in favor of the latter. [5] [6] [7]

Apart from Eat Bulaga!, the company is exploring other production interests for the possible revival of Iskul Bukol and aired the revived Wow Mali: Doble Tama in which Joey de Leon would pass his mantle to the JoWa tandem (Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola). [8]

Since 2024, the production started to produce its Lenten Drama Special for Eat Bulaga!, a tradition that was already started when the show was still produced by TAPE Inc. The production is the first edition to broadcast on TV5, ending its 27-year stint with GMA Network and 32-year stint with TAPE Inc., following the departure of the original host from the said network and production company on May 31, 2023.

Ownership

As per Philstar.com, MediaQuest Holdings, a media conglomerate owned by Manny V. Pangilinan, through MQuest Ventures agreed to acquire more than half (51%), a majority of company shares of the production company owned by TVJ themselves. [9]

In the Philippines, variety television shows have become mainstays of the noontime slot for network programming since 1958. The first Philippines noontime variety television shows were influenced by the popularity of bodabil (vaudeville) in the first half of the 20th century. Since then, the format has evolved with the changing times, with elements of reality television also incorporated as well since the 2000s. Majority of the noontime variety shows that aired on television were produced independently by blocktimers that pay a certain amount of time to television networks to air their program. Some TV networks though have managed to solely produce these kind of programs, with moderate success in terms of ratings and advertising revenues.
