Medan is the capital and largest city of the Indonesian province of North Sumatra. The nearby Strait of Malacca, Port of Belawan, and Kualanamu International Airport make Medan a regional hub and multicultural metropolis, acting as a financial centre for Sumatra and a gateway to the western part of Indonesia. About 60% of the economy in North Sumatra is backed by trading, agriculture, and processing industries, including exports from its 4 million acres of palm oil plantations. The National Development Planning Agency listed Medan as one of the four main central cities in Indonesia, alongside Jakarta, Surabaya, and Makassar. In terms of population, it is the most populous city in Indonesia outside of the island of Java. Its population as of 2023 is approximately equal to the country of Moldova.
North Sumatra is a province of Indonesia located in the northern part of the island of Sumatra. Its capital and largest city is Medan. It is bordered by Aceh on the northwest and Riau and West Sumatra on the southeast, with two different coastlines located on the Indian Ocean and the Strait of Malacca, and a maritime border with Malaysia to the east. North Sumatra is Indonesia's fourth most populous province after West Java, East Java, and Central Java, and is also the most populous province outside of Java Island. North Sumatra is also the third-largest province in area on the island of Sumatra after South Sumatra and Riau provinces. It covers an area of 72,460.74 km2, which is approximately the same size as Sierra Leone or Scotland or Maine.
Nias is an island located off the western coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. Nias is also the name of the archipelago of which the island is the centre, but also includes the Batu Islands to the southeast and the small Hinako Islands to the west. Nias Island covers an area of 5,573.27 km2 (2,151.85 sq mi). It is mostly a lowland area rising to around 800 m (2,600 ft) above sea level. There were 756,338 inhabitants on the island at the 2010 Census; at the 2015 Intermediate Census this had risen to 798,506 and the 2020 Census resulted in a total of 880,550. The official estimate as of mid-2023 was 930,294.
TVRI, legally Lembaga Penyiaran Publik (LPP) Televisi Republik Indonesia is an Indonesian national public television network. Established on 24 August 1962, it is the oldest television network in the country. Its national headquarters is in Gelora, Central Jakarta.
Kualanamu International Airport, often spelled as Kuala Namu and informally abbreviated KNIA, is an international airport serving Medan, Indonesia, and other parts of North Sumatra. It is located in the Deli Serdang Regency, 23 kilometres (14 mi) east of downtown Medan. Kualanamu is the third-largest airport in Indonesia after Jakarta Soekarno–Hatta and Bandung Kertajati, and the fifth busiest airport in Indonesia as of 2018, as well as the first Indonesian airport to receive a four-star rating from Skytrax. The airport was opened to the public on 25 July 2013, handling all flights and services from Polonia International Airport, an airport located at the heart of Medan which was deemed dangerous. The airport was built on the former site of an oil palm plantation of company Perkebunan Nusantara II Tanjung Morawa. The airport is expected to become the new international transit center in Sumatra and the western part of Indonesia. It is part of the Indonesian central government's "Masterplan to Accelerate and Expand Economic Development in Indonesia" (MP3EI) program. The airport was also considered as a candidate for ASEAN Single Aviation Market (ASEAN-SAM), an open skies policy among member countries in the Southeast Asia region starting 2015.
Television in Indonesia started in 1962, when the then state-run station TVRI began broadcasting – the third country in Southeast Asia to do so. TVRI held a television monopoly in Indonesia until 1989 when the first commercial station, RCTI began as a local station and was subsequently granted a national license a year later. The Indonesian television is regulated by both Ministry of Communications and Informatics (Kemenkominfo) for frequency matters and Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) for content matters.

Digital terrestrial television in Indonesia (DVB-T2) started in 2009, and in most areas runs alongside the analogue TV system. The first phase of nationwide analog shutdown was done in 166 regencies and cities, including Dumai, Banda Aceh, Batam, Tanjungpinang, Serang, Bali, Samarinda, Tanjung Selor, Tarakan, Makassar and Jayapura, starting on 30 April 2022 and it simplified in three stages. An analog broadcasting station in Jakarta along with 173 regencies/cities non-terrestrial services was officially signed off on 2 November 2022 at midnight. Batam, Bandung, Semarang, Surakarta and Yogyakarta followed on 2 December 2022, Surabaya on 20 December 2022, Banjarmasin on 20 March 2023, Bali and Palembang on 31 March 2023, Makassar on 20 June 2023 and Medan on 30 July 2023. On 15 July 2023, at midnight, Trans Media and Emtek/SCM officially completed the shutdown. On 31 July 2023, at midnight, Viva Group, RTV, and NET TV officially completed the shutdown of analog broadcast nationwide, followed by MNC Group on 1 August 2023 at midnight. On 12 August 2023, the digital terrestrial television of Indonesia fully turned, shifted and switched to all high definition on all thirteen local free-to-air terrestrial television station.
Binjai Station, (BIJ)—formerly known as Timbang Langkat Station—is railway station located in Binjai, Indonesia, in the area near Binjai Bus station. The station is located at an elevation of +29.30 m (96.1 ft), and is situated in the Regional Division Railway I North Sumatra and Aceh. Unlike most other stations in North Sumatra which have different architecture, Binjai station remains a colonial-style building from the time of its first construction.
The Greater Medan metropolitan area, known locally as Mebidangro is a metropolitan area in North Sumatra, Indonesia, which consists of Medan City, Binjai City, Deli Serdang Regency and part of Karo Regency. The metropolitan area was established by a presidential decree in 2011. It is a leading economic centre in western Indonesia, especially for provinces of Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra and Riau. The metropolitan area also serves as a hub for western Indonesia.
RSUD Station is a station of the Palembang LRT Line 1. The station is located between Punti Kayu and Garuda Dempo station. Nearby the station is Siti Fatimah Regional General Hospital of South Sumatra Province, hence its name.

Lundu Panjaitan was a Batak politician and bureaucrat. He began his career in bureaucracy as the assistant for administrative affairs in the office of the Governor of North Sumatra and became the Regent of Central Tapanuli in 1980. Since then, he has been appointed to several high positions in North Sumatra, such as the Head of the Tourism Bureau of North Sumatra, Regent of North Tapanuli, Chairman of the Provincial Investment Coordinating Board of North Sumatra, and the Deputy Governor of North Sumatra.
The 1967 North Sumatra gubernatorial election was an indirect election held to elect the Governor of North Sumatra for the 1967–1972 term. All members of the Regional People's Representative Council of North Sumatra were eligible to vote for this election. It resulted in incumbent acting governor Roos Telaumbanua being defeated by military officer Marah Halim Harahap.
The 1963 North Sumatra gubernatorial election was an indirect election held to elect the Governor of North Sumatra for the 1963–1968 term. All members of the Regional People's Representative Council of North Sumatra were eligible to vote for this election.
TVRI, formerly known as TVRI Jakarta Central Station is the main national public television channel owned by LPP Televisi Republik Indonesia (TVRI). The channel began broadcasting on 24 August 1962, making it the first television station in Indonesia. The channel was also the only television channel choice in Indonesia until 1989, when Programa Dua TVRI in Jakarta broadcast separately from TVRI and private television stations began broadcasting.
The Medan City Regional House of Representatives is the unicameral municipal legislature of the city of Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia. It has 50 members, who are elected every five years, simultaneously with the national legislative election.
