Tara Nelson

Tara Nelson is a Canadian television journalist and news anchor, and most recently was the European bureau chief for Global Television Network's news division. [1] In 2010, Nelson assumed the role as the anchor of the News at 6 at CTV Calgary, [2] replacing Barb Higgins, who left the position after joining the mayoral race in Calgary. [3]

Nelson previously worked as a reporter and anchor for CITV-DT in Edmonton, CHEK-DT in Victoria and CHAN-DT in Vancouver before joining Global National as a reporter. From 2005 to 2008, she served as the program's weekend anchor and primary weekday substitute anchor.

<i>Breakfast Television</i> Canadian morning program television brand

Breakfast Television (BT) is the branding used for morning shows broadcast by stations of Rogers Media's television network Citytv. As of November 17, 2020, BT only broadcast in Toronto, while the versions in Vancouver, and Calgary were cut; versions used to be broadcast in Winnipeg, Edmonton and Montreal, but have been cancelled and replaced with alternative programming. The version broadcast by the Atlantic Satellite Network continued to use the brand under licence from Rogers until 2011, when it was re-launched as CTV Morning Live upon the service's rebranding as CTV 2 Atlantic.

2010 Calgary municipal election

The 2010 Calgary municipal election was held Monday, October 18, 2010 to elect a mayor and 14 aldermen to the city council, the seven trustees to the Calgary School District, and four of the seven trustees to the Calgary Catholic School District. Three incumbent separate school trustees had no challengers. A new mayor was to be elected, as the three term incumbent Dave Bronconnier did not seek re-election. Since 1968, provincial legislation has required every municipality to hold triennial elections.

Barb Higgins

Barbara Joan Higgins is best known in Southern Alberta for her 21 year career as senior anchor, writer and producer of the 6 o'clock news for CTV Calgary. As a journalist and documentarian, Higgins brought a critical eye to the evening news. After a total of 26 years as a journalist, in July, 2010 Higgins left her post at CTV to enter the Calgary mayoral election.

Global News Hour at 6 is the name of local newscasts that air on Global, each city has a different edition of the program. The show debuted in 1968, originating at CHAN-TV Vancouver. GlobalNews Hour at 6 airs on CHAN-DT Vancouver, CICT-DT Calgary, and CITV-DT Edmonton. CHBC-DT Kelowna's flagship newscast is the hour-long Global News at 5. CIII-DT Toronto and CKMI-DT Montreal both air newscasts known as Global News at 5:30. CFRE-DT Regina, CFSK-DT Saskatoon, CKND-DT Winnipeg, CISA-DT Lethbridge, CHNB-DT Saint John, and CIHF-DT Halifax all air half-hour newscasts known as Global News at 6. CHAN, CITV, and CICT, CFRE, and CFSK also air a 5PM newscast known as Global News at 5, which airs before Global National.
