"Tears Are Not Enough" is the debut single by English pop band ABC. It was released on 16 October 1981 [4] on two formats (7" and 12"). The two singles versions of the song are both different from the version on their debut studio album, The Lexicon of Love (1982). Originally produced by Steve Brown, it was remixed for the album by Trevor Horn.

The song was ranked at number 7 among the ten best "Tracks of the Year" for 1981 by NME . [5] The single peaked at No. 19 on the UK Singles Chart. In the US, "Tears Are Not Enough" was later released as the B-side of "Poison Arrow".

Released by Neutron Records on 21 June 1982, it entered the UK Albums Chart at number one, also topping the New Zealand and Finnish charts. Certified gold in the US, it went platinum in the UK where four singles reached the top 20; "Tears Are Not Enough", "Poison Arrow", "The Look of Love" and "All of My Heart", which Pitchfork ranked number one on their "Now That's What I Call New Pop!" list.

Birgit Dieckmann, known professionally as Billie Ray Martin, is a German singer and songwriter, known for her single "Your Loving Arms", which reached the top 10 of both the UK Singles Chart (#6) and the Irish Singles Chart (#8) in 1995, and reached number one on the US Dance Club Chart. She was also one of the vocalists on the S'Express UK top 10 hit single "Hey Music Lover" (1989), and had UK top 40 hits as lead vocalist of Electribe 101 with "Tell Me When the Fever Ended" (1989) and "Talking with Myself" (1990), and as a solo singer with "Running Around Town" (1995) and "Imitation of Life" (1996).
