Teddyson John, M.B.E, [2] better known as Teddy or TJ, is a Saint Lucian brand ambassador, [3] singer and songwriter. He is also a keyboardist and percussionist. [4] John was Saint Lucia's first artist to win and be nominated for an International Reggae and World Music Award. [5] [6]
John was born in a Christian family where his mom and dad were not musically inclined but some of his brothers were. However, John started singing and performing in church which would manifest in his days at the Sir Ira Simmons Secondary School. His first recording before he entered the Soca industry in 2007 was a gospel song entitled "Sweeter". [7] [8]
Before John rose to fame he served in the hospitality industry. John worked at St Lucia Sandals Resort as an Entertainment Manager. [9]
In 2017 John became 1 of 12 Saint Lucians to be a part of Her Majesty's Birthday Honours. John received the honour of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire M.B.E .

Saint Lucia is an island country of the West Indies in the eastern Caribbean. The island was previously called Iouanalao and later Hewanorra, names given by the native Arawaks and Caribs (respectively), two Amerindian peoples. Part of the Windward Islands of the Lesser Antilles, it is located north/northeast of the island of Saint Vincent, northwest of Barbados and south of Martinique. It covers a land area of 617 km2 with an estimated population of over 180,000 people as of 2022. The nation's capital and largest city is Castries.
Soca music is a genre of music defined by Lord Shorty, its inventor, as the "Soul of Calypso", which has influences of African and East Indian rhythms. It was originally spelled "sokah" by its inventor but through an error in a local newspaper when reporting on the new music it was erroneously spelled "soca"; Lord Shorty confirmed the error but chose to leave it that way to avoid confusion. It is a genre of music that originated in Trinidad and Tobago in the early 1970s and developed into a range of styles during the 1980s and after. Soca was initially developed by Lord Shorty in an effort to revive traditional calypso, the popularity of which had been flagging amongst younger generations in Trinidad due to the rise in popularity of reggae from Jamaica and soul and funk from the United States. Soca is an offshoot of Calypso/Kaiso, with influences from East Indian rhythms and hooks.
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. Popular music from abroad, especially Trinidadian styles like calypso and soca, is widespread.
The Culture of Saint Lucia blends the influences of African, French, and English heritage. The official language of the island is English but Kreole, a form of French patois, remains an influential secondary language. The people are predominantly Catholic but the religious climate is tolerant.
Nicole David is a soca music artist from Saint Lucia. She is referred to as "St. Lucia's Queen of Soca" and was a member of the soca band DN5. She is now the lead vocalist of the band Spectacle.
The monarchy of Saint Lucia is a system of government in which a hereditary monarch is the sovereign and head of state of Saint Lucia. The current monarch and head of state, since 8 September 2022, is King Charles III. As sovereign, he is the personal embodiment of the Saint Lucian Crown. Although the person of the sovereign is equally shared with 14 other independent countries within the Commonwealth of Nations, each country's monarchy is separate and legally distinct. As a result, the current monarch is officially titled King of Saint Lucia and, in this capacity, he and other members of the Royal Family undertake public and private functions domestically and abroad as representatives of the Saint Lucian state. Sir Emmanuel Neville Cenac is the former governor-general of Saint Lucia. He was appointed to that post in January 2018. On 28 July 2021 Cenac is reported to have signalled his intention to resign. As of 31 October, he demitted the viceregal office. He was previously best known as a Saint Lucian politician, serving as the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1987 to 1992.
Emma Hippolyte, OBE is a Saint Lucian politician and Minister for Commerce, Manufacturing, Business Development, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs. Hippolyte serves as the representative for Soufriere-Fond St. Jacques as a Member of Parliament. Hippolyte was a member of the Saint Lucian Senate from 2007 to 2011. She won the Soufriere-Fond St. Jacques seat in the 2021 general election. She lost the Gros Islet seat in the 2016 general election.
Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, known professionally as Wizkid, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. A prominent figure in the modern-day Afrobeats music scene, Wizkid is regarded as one of the biggest and most influential African artists of all time. He began recording music at the age of 11 and released a collaborative album with the Glorious Five (5), a group he and a couple of his church friends formed. In 2009, Wizkid signed a record deal with Banky W's Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E). He later rose to the limelight after releasing "Holla at Your Boy", the lead single from his debut studio album, Superstar (2011), which also spawned the singles "Tease Me/Bad Guys" and "Don't Dull".
Simisola Bolatito KosokoListen, better known by her stage name Simi, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and actress. She started her career as a gospel singer, releasing her debut studio album in 2008, titled Ogaju. She also played as one of the top judges in season 7 of the Nigerian idol TV show in 2022. She gained public recognition in 2014 after releasing "Tiff", a song that was nominated for Best Alternative Song at The Headies 2015. Simi signed a record deal with X3M Music in 2014, but left the label in May 2019 following the expiration of her contract. She released her second studio album Simisola on September 8, 2017. Her third studio album Omo Charlie Champagne, Vol. 1 was released to coincide with her thirty-first birthday on April 19, 2019. She launched her record label Studio Brat in June 2019.
Gamal Doyle, better known as Skinny Fabulous, is a Vincentian musician, singer and songwriter. He is a five-time Soca Monarch winner for his home country Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and created history in Trinidad and Tobago winning the 2019 Road March title with his hit "Famalay" which features Trinidadian soca artistes Ian "Bunji Garlin" Alvarez and Machel Montano.
Joshua Solomon-Davies is a Saint Lucian semi-professional footballer who plays as a right back for the Saint Lucia national football team. He currently plays for Marine in the Northern Premier League, winning promotion to the Northern Premier League Premier Division at the end of the 2021/22 season following victory in the play off final.
Kenson Casimir is a Saint Lucian politician, former sports broadcaster and journalist. Casimir serves as Minister for Youth Development and Sports. He was the endorsed Saint Lucia Labour Party candidate for the constituency of Gros Islet. Casimir claimed his spot in the dubbed landslide victory for the Saint Lucia Labour Party in the 2021 Saint Lucian General Election. Casimir represents the Gros Islet constituency in the House of Assembly.
