The Texas Longhorns swimming and diving program represents The University of Texas at Austin in NCAA Division I intercollegiate men's and women's swimming and diving competition. The Longhorns currently compete in the Big 12 Conference.

Contents

The first swim team at the University of Texas was created and developed under Tex Robertson. Robertson was the head coach of the team between 1936 and 1943 and between 1946 and 1950. During that period he led the Longhorns to 13 Southwest Conference championships.

In 1979, Eddie Reese became the head coach of the men's swimming team. Under Reese, the Texas men's team has won 15 NCAA championships, [1] the most among all programs, and 41 consecutive conference championships. [2] The women's team has won seven NCAA championships and two AIAW championships. [3]

The Auburn Tigers swimming and diving program is Auburn University's representative in the sport of swimming and diving. The Tigers compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1 and are members of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The program started in 1932 when the pool was in the basement of the gymnasium. The program had to telegraph their timed results to other schools and compare as the pool was too small for competitions.

Reese serves as the head coach of the Texas Longhorns men's swimming and diving team that represents the University of Texas in Austin, Texas. He previously served as the men's head coach for the United States' Olympic Swimming Team in 2004 and 2008, as well as an assistant coach at the 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2012 Summer Olympics. He is widely regarded as the greatest swim coach in history.

Kris Kirchner is an American former competition swimmer who represented the United States in international events. At the 1979 Pan American Games in San Juan Puerto, Rico, he won a gold medal as a member of the winning U.S. team in the 4x200-metre freestyle relay, together with teammates Brian Goodell, David Larson and Rowdy Gaines. He qualified to be a member of the U.S. team for the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, but was unable to participate as a result of the United States-led boycott of the games because of the Soviet Union's invasion of Afghanistan.

Daniel "Danny" Krueger is an American competitive swimmer who specializes in freestyle events. He is a three-time medalist at the World Junior Championships. Krueger competes collegiately for the University of Texas at Austin where he is a three-time NCAA Champion, a nine-time All-American, a seventeen-time Big 12 champion, and a 2019, 2020 & 2021 CSCAA Scholar All-American. After the 2020 season and the cancellation of the 2020 NCAA Division I Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, Krueger was named the Big 12 Conference Swimmer of the Year as a sophomore. In 2021 Krueger was named Big 12 Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
