Thabiso Maretlwaneng is a Botswanan television and film producer. [1] He received an African Achievers Award in 2015. [2] [1]

Life

Thabiso Maretlwaneng was a karate champion, and gained a sports scholarship to study at Swinburne University of Technology in Australia. As a student, he produced a feature-length documentary, Head Up, following the journey of young black refugees in Australia trying to break into the country's hip hop industry. The soundtrack for Head Up won an award at the 2009 New York International Independent Film and Video Festival. [3]

Maretlwaneng's Botswana company Dee-Zone Productions received youth funding from the Botswana Government. [2] It produced Ntwagolo, a 52-episode interactive docudrama looking at the impact of AIDS in Botswana. Pelokgale, a series which started airing in 2014, examined gender-based violence. [4] An entertainment show, Pula Power, also started airing in 2014. [5] In 2016 Dee-Zone Productions was sued over unpaid rentals. [6]

The MELS Movement of Botswana is a Marxist-Leninist communist party in Botswana without parliamentary representation. Themba Joina, a practicing lawyer, is the president of the organization. The name MELS is derived from (Karl) Marx, (Friedrich) Engels, (Vladimir) Lenin and (Joseph) Stalin.

The 2006 British Academy Television Awards were held on Sunday 7 May at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. The ceremony was hosted by television presenter Davina McCall and broadcast on ITV the following day. The nominees for the audience-voted Pioneer Award were announced on Tuesday 14 March; other nominees were revealed on Monday 27 March.

30 for 30 is the title for a series of documentary films airing on ESPN, its sister networks, and online highlighting interesting people and events in sports history. This includes three "volumes" of 30 episodes each, a 13-episode series under the ESPN Films Presents title in 2011–2012, and a series of 30 for 30 Shorts shown through the ESPN.com website. The series has also expanded to include Soccer Stories, which aired in advance of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, and audio podcasts.

Ian Khama

Seretse Khama Ian Khama is a Motswana politician and former military officer who was the fourth President of the Republic of Botswana from 1 April 2008 to 1 April 2018. After serving as Commander of the Botswana Defence Force, he entered politics and was Vice-President of Botswana from 1998 to 2008, then succeeded Festus Mogae as President on 1 April 2008. He won a full term in the 2009 election and was re-elected in October 2014.

<i>Total Drama</i> Canadian animated comedy television series

Total Drama is a Canadian animated comedy television series which is an homage to and satire of common conventions from reality television. It premiered on the Canadian cable television specialty channel Teletoon in Canada on July 8, 2007, and on the American cable television channel Cartoon Network in the U.S. on June 5, 2008. The show revolves around a group of teenagers competing in a fictional reality television show, while developing relationships with each other. The style of the show is similar to that of Survivor - in that the contestants compete in challenges for rewards and immunity from elimination. The contestants are progressively eliminated from the game as they are voted out by their fellow-contestants until only one remains to be awarded the grand prize. Total Drama was met with critical praise upon release and has developed a cult following.

Ross Kemp: Extreme World is a BAFTA award-winning British documentary series that has been broadcast on Sky 1 since 21 February 2011. Hosted by actor Ross Kemp, the series follows Kemp and a film crew around the world as they explore various forms of hardship, including homelessness, illicit trade, drug addiction, violence and poverty. Often, he speaks to the authorities who are attempting to combat the problems, and tries to establish contact with ringleaders to get to the source of the issue. A total of six series have been aired.

The third season of the fantasy drama television series Game of Thrones premiered in the United States on HBO on March 31, 2013, and concluded on June 9, 2013. It was broadcast on Sunday at 9:00 pm in the United States, consisting of 10 episodes, each running approximately 50–60 minutes. The season is based roughly on the first half of A Storm of Swords. The series is adapted for television by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. HBO renewed the series for a third season on April 10, 2012, nine days after the second season's premiere. Production began in July 2012. The show was filmed primarily in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Croatia, Iceland and Morocco.

Gaona Nketso Dintwe is a Botswana television presenter, talk show host, event host, broadcast journalist and media entrepreneur Since 2006, she has worked as a radio and TV presenter for Radio Botswana 2 and Botswana Television hosting several shows including RB2's midmorning 'Urban Flavas' and Botswana TV's morning show and in addition she has as well presented other TV Shows and currently hosts Gaona Live.

Donald Leungo Gosego Molosi, is a Motswana actor, writer and playwright. Molosi debuted off-Broadway in 2010 as Philly Lutaaya in Today It's Me making him the first Motswana to perform off-Broadway. In 2011, Molosi won the Best Short Solo Award at United Solo Theatre Festival for his performance as Seretse Khama in Blue, Black and White. In 2013, Molosi returned off-Broadway to perform Motswana: Africa, Dream Again. He played supporting roles in the following historic films, A United Kingdom (2016) and Given (2009). As a playwright, Molosi has published a collection of his original off-Broadway plays, which include We Are All Blue, Blue, Black and White and Motswana: Africa, Dream Again in 2016.

Thato Rantao Mwosa is a Botswana-American writer-director, illustrator, playwright, educator, and game inventor.

Caine Youngman is a human rights activist and member of the LGBT rights movement in Botswana. He first gained international attention in 2011 when he tried to overturn the country's ban on same-sex relations. He currently serves as policy and legal advocacy manager at human rights group LEGABIBO. He is also on the regional board of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association. Caine has been attacked by Steven Anderson for his sexual orientation and was involved in the 2019 High Court case which led to the decriminalisation of consensual same-sex relations.

Ditshwanelo, or the Botswana Centre for Human Rights, is a human rights organisation founded in 1993 in Botswana. It aims to improve human rights through education and governance. The group has campaigned against capital punishment and for LGBT rights. For its advocacy it has received awards from the Commission nationale consultative des droits de l'homme and OutRight Action International.

Mwampule Masule is a Motswana professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for the Botswana national team and is currently a free agent. He last played for Botswana Premier League club Orapa United.

Sefalana, is Botswana's second largest food retailer. It operates more than 1200 stores across Africa. The company's headquarters are in Gaborone, Botswana. Sefalana is a public company listed on the Botswana Stock Exchange.

Ross Branch is a Motswana motorcycle racer representing Botswana. He lives in Gaborone, Botswana and rode for the KTM Off-Road Racing Team until October 2018. He now represents Monster Energy Honda Racing and is the first stage winner from Botswana, after taking the stage 2 victory at the Dakar Rally 2020.
