The Asian American Foundation (TAAF) is an American foundation founded in 2021 by a group of prominent Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, aiming to support an array of Asian American and Pacific Islander causes and create a national infrastructure for a community that has faced an increasing number of racial attacks. [2] Launched with $250 million, [3] TAAF is described by organizers as the largest-ever philanthropic effort to support the AAPI community in history. [4] The founders include Joe Tsai, Joseph Bae, Li Lu, Peng Zhao, Sheila Lirio Marcelo, Jerry Yang, Angela Chao [5] and Jonathan Greenblatt. Its Founding Advisory Council members include Daniel Dae Kim, Lisa Ling, Condoleezza Rice, Jeremy Lin and more. [6] The organization is chaired by Li Lu, [7] [8] and Norman Chen is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). [9]

According to TAFF's 5-year portfolio strategy, [10] TAAF focuses on four core initiatives: [11] [12]

In addition, TAAF's AAPI Giving Challenge is a multi-year campaign where partners can make direct grant-making to AAPI organizations, invest in diversity programs, support AAPI businesses, or provide in-kind services. [13]

Data and research

TAAF funds an annual survey Social Tracking of Asian Americans in the U.S. (STAATUS) [14] and partners with organizations like the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF) and the Stop Asian Hate coalition to provide data about the AAPI community [15] such as the AANHPI women state of safety survey and the Documenting anti-AAPI hate: Codebook.

Li Lu is a Chinese-born American value investor, businessman and philanthropist. He is the founder and chairman of Himalaya Capital Management. Prior to immigrating to America, he was one of the student leaders of the 1989 Tiananmen Square student protests. In 2021, he also co-founded The Asian American Foundation and serves as its chairman.

A second generation Korean American, Lee faced gender discrimination and anti-Asian bias early in her career, and spent the 1980s moving between local broadcasters. However, she reached a turning point in 1995, when she joined CNN; she first worked as a correspondent in Tokyo and Hong Kong, and later became the network's first female anchor of Korean descent.

The Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment (CAPE) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that advocates for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the entertainment industry. Established in 1991, CAPE "champions diversity by educating, connecting, and empowering Asian American and Pacific Islander artists and leaders in entertainment and media." The organization focuses on training development program and incubators for emerging and mid-level entertainment industry professionals and media consulting and training services.

Joseph Tsai (Chinese: 蔡崇信; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Chhòa Chông-sìn; born January 1964) is a Taiwanese-Canadian billionaire business magnate, lawyer, and philanthropist. He is a co-founder and chairman of the Chinese multinational technology company Alibaba Group and owns the Brooklyn Nets of the American National Basketball Association (NBA), the New York Liberty of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), the San Diego Seals of the National Lacrosse League, and has interests in several other professional sports franchises. Tsai's net worth is estimated to be US$8.1 billion.

Stop AAPI Hate is a nonprofit organization that runs the Stop AAPI Hate Reporting Center, which tracks self-reported incidents of hate and discrimination against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) in the United States. The organization was formed in 2020 in response to racist attacks on the Asian community as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Stop AAPI Hate’s approach centered on four strategies:

Stop Asian Hate is a slogan and name of a series of demonstrations, protests, and rallies against violence against Asians, Asian Americans, and others of Asian descent. They were held across the United States in 2021 in response to racial discrimination against Asian Americans relating to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Annie Guo VanDan is an American journalist. She is co-founder and president of Asian Avenue, a magazine published since 2006 that covers the Asian-American and Pacific Islander community of Denver, Colorado. In 2021 she won a Maynard Institute Fellowship from the Robert C. Maynard Institute for Journalism Education, which aims to promote equity and diversity in journalism. In 2021 she became a Project Manager for Colorado Equity Compass, a non-profit dedicated to improving health equity through "data storytelling", which entails presenting information in accessible visual and narrative forms for policy-makers and the public.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Chiling Tong</span> American politician

Chiling Tong is an Asian Pacific American activist and a public official. She has held various public offices under George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump. She is currently the president and chief executive officer of The National Asian Pacific Islander American Chamber of Commerce & Entrepreneurship and the Founding President of the International Leadership Foundation. She is one of the most prominent female Chinese American politicians since Elaine Chao.

Gold House is a non-profit organization based in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Singapore that promotes the interests of people of Asian and Pacific Islander descent. The collective consists of founders, creators, investors, entertainers, thinkers and other leaders with the goal of highlighting each other's work, investing in both content and companies, and changing perceptions about the impact of the Asian Pacific diaspora within and across multicultural communities. According to the organization's website, the strategy is to "forge meaningful bonds across professional, familial, and community life, and leverage those relationships to elevate the Asian Pacific diaspora's authentic societal representation and economic success."
